Legal question (About domain names)

Post by Bacon »

Lets use "company-name" as my example.

If i got the domain http://www.companyname.com WITHOUT the - in the middle, and it redirected to another company when they enter it in the address bar (say for example my company), is that illegal? Allowed?

unethical and you probably would get pulled into court if the company is big enuff.
you may end up paying court fees and complainants fees.

i'm sure google could point you to several people who got screwed over with the thought of fast bucks for little investment

I researched this not too long ago because a squatter registered an international root (hk, or some shit) of the company name. Both international and US law are fairly vague when it comes to fair use of domain names, but are clear that if the name is a registerred trademark of an existing company, you might be asked kindly to relinquish the name, but for the most part, registrars and especially APNIC won't get off their asses to enforce unless drafted by a legal entity.

Visit the TEAS for a pretty decent search engine inclusice of existing trademarks.

Dude. I actually laughed. You're like a little boy trying to act all big man. I can almost take LawL more seriously than you... and he blows koala bears. If you want to keep throwing the juvenile out there, I'll humor you. Hows this;

SHUT UP STUPID FACE!

All better now, junior?
