I think it's easy to jump to conclusions and assume the cartoon refers to Obama, but it could just be a generalization of our government.
That's not to say the cartoon is fine and dandy. The author (and the Post) should have considered how the cartoon could have been misinterpreted and shown some tact. Of course, any publicity is good publicity, right?

Maybe poor judgment to not think about the shitstorm this would create, but Obama didn't really write the stimulus. I look at this more like a slam at the congress/senate than at the president. Still, who knows what the author's intent was.

at people thinking the monkey represents Obama.
The cartoon spoofs the story about that chimp that went crazy yesterday and was shot. The joke being that even a monkey could come up with the stimulus legislation.

Are you serious? Quite apart from the fact that the stimulus package is probably the biggest issue on American's minds right now...
That cartoon is from the NY Post.

A Rod is good people, and if he used, he seemed to do so modestly. Others have gotten large and less nimble due to their more reckless misuse.

What the fuck is the cartoon about? It's like people who fail at making cartoons that are remotely funny turn to political cartoons.

im not taking this personally or anything, i just dont see how you can

someone for not realizing that this was a big story on NY Post.

I mean what the fuck, those two cops don't even look like real people. Somebody who never saw cartoons before wouldn't be able to identify those characters are human.

Al Sharpton does his best to calm race relations, as usual.
Al Sharpton wrote:The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

No maybes, it was full stop retarded. But it is really the editor who fucked this up...placing the monkey cartoon immediately after the large photo layout of Obama signing the stimulus bill. I mean, the cartoon may or may not be objectionable on its face...I can see reasonable arguments on both sides, given the currency of the crazed chimp story. However, in the context of where it appears in the paper itself the manifest lack of editorial judgment is mind boggling.

So we can portray Bush as a monkey for 8 years as a mark of his "intellect" but not Obama because he's black and it might be construed as a racial slur?
Bullshit. Goddamn PC babies.

obama cant be portrayed a monkey as a mark of his intellect becuase he's incredibly intelligent. so of course its about race. and of course that's going ot be offensive to many people. is that a surprise?
