Shadow Complex

Post by o'dium »

Anybody here played this yet...?

Eraser, you would LOVE it. Put simply its everything a classic Metroid and Castlevania fan loves. Its 3d, set on a 2d side scrolling view, with some amazing visuals and so much to collect... The devs actually all spent a lot of time playing the old 2D Metroids so that they could copy the feel as best as possible and it shows.

If you get the demo of Live, heres a hint... Beat the big metal spider boss, you'll know which one it is when you see it, its just after you get the grenades. Once he starts exploding, keep pressing Start. After a few seconds it will bring up the pause menu. When it does, select "Load last save point". It loads back to the Grenade room, the boss is still beat... However, you just unlocked the full game. You can play from start to finish now. Otherwise the demo would end in that room. Only downsides are that it doesnt let you save and quit, otherwise you have to do the trick again, and you also cant get cheevos :(

But damn if this isn't worth the 1500 points. Probably the best Arcade game I've seen in a long time. Go give it a try.

word, this game is amazing. i've been dieing for a proper new addition to this genre and shadow complex more than delivers. i've been playing on the hardest setting and damn is it a challenge. the exp bonus is insane though and easily makes up for the difficulty. i'm just over halfway through the game--i think--and am already at level 28 or something like that. plus not playing with the blue line and item marks completely removes in sort of linearity the game might have. i'm pretty sure i've been exploring areas not ment to be entered for a while.

the game is a bit buggy though. i was messing around in an outside area when all of a sudden some sorta helicopter boss sequence appeared to start. so i ran inside a building that happened to have an elevator and i went down. it took me to the exo skeleton armor but the helicopter was still attacking me while i was inside. the elevator disapeared so i couldn't go back up to fight it, yet somehow i was being shot at and hurt by the dumb helicopter. the helicopter finally vanished after i died, but i wonder if i did something out of order that caused the mess up.

It's Castlevania Symphony of the Night with guns. In other words all kinds of awesome.

i love it, beat it with 100% items and 13%. i've only played it at the normal setting so i just got to level 30, but it has been fun getting there.

Why the hell does MS force you to either spend $15.00 on 1000 MS points, or $25.00 for 2000 points. Like I really want to spend $25.00 on these arcade games.

It's a shitty underhanded scheme to make you spend more money than you have to.

And when you pre-spend like that, they end up with a metric shit-ton of cash which they can then invest/earn interest on. Once you actually spend it, they move it again in the books to actual profit and get to keep the interest/earnings in the meantime.

lol, yeah...

Anyway I feel the same way about MS points... I had to buy 2100 just to pay for this 1200 game, its stupid... I should be able to just buy it... Oh well, got Sonic 3 for 400, that leaves me a little over to play with should something drop in price (Duke 3d is STILL 800, thats stupid...).

this is where creditcards are actually useful
you still cant get any amount, but at least you can get smaller chunks - in my case i got 1000 + 500, leaving me with 300. time for some more rockband tracks perhaps, teehee

Looks great. Thanks for the tip o'dium, I'll look into it.

I must admit though that I hated Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow on the DS. That's the only Castlevania game I've ever played so I'm not a big fan of the series.

I'll download the Shadow Complex demo if I have the time for it this weekend.

in that case, get Castlevania SOTN on XBLA. the first (and imo best) metroid-vania.
the DS versions were lacking, tho circle of the moon was near excellent

Ok, so I've been playing this game and it's badass so far. I'm just wondering how far in you have to go to find a missile launcher or some foam. I've seen several areas where I need these items to blow up and enter, but haven't seen them anywhere. I was thinking I may need to go back and look, but didn't know if they just come later...

I gotta admit that it feels like you get the foam and missile launcher relatively late in the game but it's setup so that you'll most likely backtrack on several areas that you saw purple and red barriers so it isn't too tedious to go back and hit them up.

just an FYI, if you're going for 100% completion then make sure you do that BEFORE blowing up the tower room thing. once that explosion occurs you can't travel across the top of the lake which makes it a bit harder to traverl around and collect items.
