What are you spoiling yourself with this Holiday season?

Post by tnf »

A group of atheists and agnostics and whatnot might not celebrate the 'reason' for the season, but if nothing else its a chance to buy stuff guilt free.

Any major purchases on the plate for you or anyone else?

I bought this (got it used for less though):
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-100-400mm-f ... B00007GQLS

And I ordered this (mentioned in the photography thread)
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... elid=19584

Those are large expenditures for me but I have busted ass in recent months and finished a deal that pays me an a decent chunk of money over the next 10 years, so I was in sort of a once in a lifetime position to buy the camera because once kids are in the equation that kind of spending on myself is all over. Those will be the last big purchases i make for a long time I think.

For the wife, I think I will redo the kitchen cabinets/countertops/etc.

Whats on your plate for holiday shopping?

i've never felt the urge to buy stuff during the "season". I generally make purchases when I need something. The last three have been towards tennis - a racquet, shoes, and a digicam to film my strokes.

My HTPC. Almost done, actually. I just need to get a converter since my TV is so old and I want to get a more efficient PSU so it uses less electricity and generates less heat. Maybe a SSD for booting as well.

I really really want an SSD for my laptop but the 256 drives are still stupidly expensive. Might get myself a Seagate Momentus 500 to at least have the fastest non-ssd mobile drive. Aside from that I need to finish redesigning my master bedroom so maybe I'll get that done too.

I'm considering picking up an ASUS G51J3D when I hop back from the UK to NZ via LAX in January.

Going to have to sell off my current PC when I'm back in the UK for Christmas. No point having it sit there while I'm on the other side of the globe, and it's fuck aspensive to get it shipped.

I don't usually buy myself gifts for xmas. The lady and I tend to "co-purchase" a gift to ourselves -- traveling, or an evening out to a show, or something like that.

But I just bought our audi this summer... and damn that was a painful check to write. Don't think I'll be making another big purchase anytime soon...

I'd like to buy one of these. My buddy has one, says he'll sell it to me for about $1000.

Will go well with my Les Paul

I can't really think of any large purchases that I currently really want. I just upgraded my computer, new 27" iMac would be nice, but my current one still works fine and isn't that old. A digital SLR would be nice, but I currently don't have the time to put all the effort into learning how to use it. A fixie would be nice, but I probably won't be able to ride it for at least 6 months.

Maybe some new rope for lead climbing and some power tools.

I'm the same way, but I happened to get a decent bonus this year and spent some of it on myself. Picked up a GTX 260, a few games, a night out with the wife, and put back the rest.

Well it looks like I've got my L1A1 sold, so I'll probably be picking up a new rifle soon. Maybe a Sig 556 or an AR-10, I'm not quite sure.

Just gave my TV to my folks. Shipping PC parts back over with me in checked luggage in January (WILL ALL BE STOLEN OR BREAK).... I guess my next purchase is a cheap PC case.

About to throw $30k at my student loan, if that counts.... then drain my account in April when the taxman knocks ;(
