I keep getting stuttering for a second or two every now and then, online and offline, baseq3 and osp, with or without bots or players. I notice my 125fps dropping to 30 and below when it happens. I've no idea why, my new pc is more than up to it. Any solution? The only thing I can say is that the game was never reinstalled when I made the change from XP to W7, it just works from the old hard drive it resides on, and I can't find the CD to reinstall it. Whether reinstalling it would clear it up, I don't know.
While I'm at it, another thing which I should have probably posted here and not in Q3A discussion.
Strange little problem which doesn't occur on 1.32.
If I switch to version 1.31 and go onto certain maps like DM2 or one of the defrag maps, the game freezes up after a few seconds. I've only discovered this in skirmish with or without a bot present, don't know if it would happen online, I imagine it would. If I change r_mode -1 back to something else, such as r_mode 4, it doesn't freeze. But not having r_mode -1 means I can't make use of my custom height and width which is 1920 x 1080, native for my monitor, and the display reverts to a squashed image. Obviously it's not a major issue as I rarely go onto any q3a server now as I play qlive more. But there is one server with players I sometimes jump on which is 1.31, just because one or two friends of mine are there. DM2 has never come up on that server so I don't know what would happen, but it would probably freeze. I'm just curious as to why this might happen on 1.31 but not without r_mode -1, any idea?
Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
stuttering, are you sure W7 doesnt have some Defender like app monitoring either what q3 does or what your network does?
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
I don't know tbh, can't see anything like that.
I thought I had it solved by turning off vertical refresh in ati control centre, the 125fps in the top right corner of the screen hardly flickered, but then it came back.

Do you have a wireless connection?
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
Nope, regular cable. As it happens, I just had quake 3 open and windowed, and then connected my phone via usb to charge it. The moment it connected, the framerate dropped in quake. So it could well be some other program that causes it. Btw, checking task manager, my cpu is at 100% usage when Q3 is running. Is that normal? Seems a bit excessive.
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
that's not right, there's should be something left to manage the normal running of the OS.
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
That's exactly what I was thinking, yeah. There's only about 2 or 3% left for that, the rest is Q3. I get 48% cpu usage with quakelive, but I guess that's quite different.

Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
its normal for the game to take 100% cpu..
The O/S will take some when needed.

is your phone synched with your computer, or is there synching software present?

Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
Perhaps a reinstall really is needed. Your config should update to your new hardware but perhaps there's some discombobulation going on.
Re: Q3A framerate dropping causing stutter
deletion of q3config should take care of that rite?
