download help

IE 8, Windows XP Pro SP#

I get the following message when trying to download anything

Security settings do not allow you to download........


I have reset all settings to the lowest and still wont work


I installed Firefox from a flashdrive and installed but the same thing happens with it


I have googled this to death for hours and am getting nowhere.

Please help

What's the download source and type of file?

Any third party security software installed?

Trying to download Microsoft security essentials and have tried AVG from download.com

Tried creating a new account [administrator] doesnt work

Gone into msconfig and disabled all

doesnt work


I have no clue

Thanks for the try, but I tried this several thousand tries ago.

odd problem .. virus?

i get a nagging feeling a windows service has been disabled causing this.
Give this a try if you want
reboot stop using msconfig then check out this windows services tweaking website

Just as a rule of thumb, maybe it's a good idea to use something other than Internet Explorer. Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari? Really, anything is better.

I was just saying..., seeing as how he already solved the problem. Hence the "rule of thumb".
