Happy Mardi Gras! (no homo)

Post by LawL »

SYDNEY'S Oxford Street has begun its transformation from busy city street to a colourful catwalk in readiness for Saturday night's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.

By late Saturday morning, several parade participants were already out and about, proudly waving rainbow flags and wearing matching costumes.

Many pubs and shops were also adorned with the trademark flags, while footpaths along the route were fenced off in preparation for the thousands of spectators expected to turn out for the sparkling spectacle.

The parade, due to kick off at 7.45pm (AEDT), will include more than 9000 participants, with floats showing off this year's theme, History of the World.

Transsexual American model Amanda Lepore will lead the parade, now in its 32nd year.

Sydney MP Verity Firth said the entire festival, which ends with a Mardi Gras party next weekend, injected $29 million into the local economy.

"Mardi Gras reflects Sydney's vibrant and colourful personality," Ms Firth said.

"It showcases our diversity and free-thinking spirit to the world."

The parade will this year begin at Wentworth Avenue rather than Hyde Park, to avoid the robberies and assaults that happened in the park last year.

More than 1000 police will be deployed for the parade.

The NSW Ambulance Service advises people to drink in moderation, avoid taking drugs and look after their friends.

I thought he was always gay, just still in the closet about it. Congrats LawL on your coming out... I don't judge you on your choice of sexual partners and accept you the way you are.

Maybe you should try a same sex relationship, considering your terrible track record with women.

Still having trouble letting go of that fantasy I see. Well at least being the top in your relationship is working out for you.
