God of War III

Post by tnf »

On its way.

Anyone played it yet? I tried what feels like a bit of a knock-off, Dante's Inferno, and it wasn't much - nothing can beat the the mechanics and feel of the combos you pull off in the God of War games.

Speaking of bad games, I made the mistake of renting Final Fantasy XIII. Is it just that things are lost in translation (is the original story written in Japanese?), or is the dialogue within the conversations really that fucking horrid?

I haven't played ffxiii, but ever since they started using recorded voice actors, the dialogue has been shit.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that this is more of the same.

FF was always originally written in Japanese and then translated to Engrish.

The way stories are told in Japan (pacing and whatnot) are different than in the west. So yes, things get lost in translation.

I'm playing through Dante's Inferno right now, and I'm digging it. I never played any of the GoW games, though, so I can't really compare it to them.

Donny, you can pick up an imported God of War Collection for a reasonable amount of cash from eBay. As far as I'm aware, the only version the UK is getting is the one that ships with the most expensive collector's edition of GoW3.

FF13 is utter wank. Why these games are so popular I will never know. I really want to go to Japan though, because clearly the entire fucking nation is on drugs.

No. The first 16 hours are utter wank. After that its one of the best games this gen.

Although, nobody should have to sit through 16 hours (2-3 normal games worth) content before a game gets good. But you can't say anything after when Hope finally confronts Snow is bad... You DID play it all the way through, right ;)

lol, what a load of bollocks. If the first 16 hours of a game are crap, then I'm pretty sure the remaining 15 minutes will be shit as well.

No, not really, I'm sorry. I did try once (FF8 I think) but by the third time I had to interact with the game during a fight by navigating a dull looking menu which resulted in a 2 minute pre-rendered video - rinse and repeat 15 times - I got really, really bored with it.

I don't give a shit what happens to Sulky, Twat, Twit, Pip, and Marm. Sometimes, I kill them on purpose.

The fact that games have shortened so much in the last few years so that 8 hours is an average game's length is sad, in and of itself. :(

Ignoring the fact that games get increasingly more expensive, I don't mind them being a bit shorter. I don't have nearly the amount of spare time as I had 10 years ago, so I won't even attempt playing MMO's simply because they're such time sinks.

I must admit that it hurts a bit deep down inside that I know I simply won't be able to play Civ V as much as I'd want to when it comes out.

Seems like most FF games actually. FF7 only took about 1-2 hours in to pick up. FF9 took about 10 hours until it made me actually look forward to playing it (I would play it a few minutes off and on). FF10.... I didn't enjoy that until the last hour or so when all of the whacky shit finally got tied together. 12 hours in to 12 and I'm still not interested enough to load it up again. (It's been a year since I've played 12)

Not going to go on about the rest of the Final Fantasies (haven't played 3 or 4) since I'm sure you get the idea.

I was willing plump £60 for this collectors edition. But not £130.

The demo was posted about 2 weeks ago on PSN. I have played through it twice and it's absolutely fantastic. Everything you love about God of War has been polished. So expect nicer graphics, new weapons and abilities, epic bosses and it's more brutal then ever. I showed it to my wife and she was horrified :)

I'm going to get it as soon as I get back from vacation.

Yeah, it seems like a great series but unfortunately a PS3 isn't anywhere in my near future. Its really too bad its an exclusive.

God of War series is well worth the price of entry IMO, the very definition of a killer app.
