"It Might Get Loud" guitar documentary
"It Might Get Loud" guitar documentary
I watched the "It Might Get Loud" documentary last weekend. It's a documentary about three rock guitarists (The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White) who get together and talk about them growing up with the guitar and their experiences. While it's not exactly going deep into the technicalities of playing guitar, it does succeed in showing the contrast between these different guitarists in style and ideas about what making music should be about. Especially Jack White is an interesting character in the whole. I thought it was a joy to watch.
For those interested: it is available on XBox Live's Zune marketplace (at least, it is in Europe). You can watch the SD version for 330 MS Points and the HD version for 450 or something like that. Or you could go to your favorite torrent site and blacken your soul once and for all.
Below is the trailer.

Naw man Jack White's a pretty interesting character in this video. He might not be the technically most impressive guitar player out there (the same could arguably said about The Edge as well), but the thing he does is kind of defining. I reckon that he's more interesting to listen to than yet another Joe Satriani type of player. He brings something fresh to the table.

Re: "It Might Get Loud" guitar documentary
Meh, I watched this awhile ago and I was thoroughly unimpressed. Wasn't entirely sure what to expect but I had to stop watching it about 3/4 of the way through cuz it was pretty stupid. The Edge is a fuckin' retard and this show just reinforced that for me. Jimmy Page just looks like a stoned drunk dude that loves to caress his Les Paul and there's nothing wrong with that. Jack White is interesting I'll admit, but this show didn't really delve enough into what they actually play. It was pretty wishy-washy over-all.

jack white is the coolest mother fucker alive.

I must admit that this is true. It's a bit of a collection of short anecdotes and doesn't really delve deeper into the technicalities of the guitar, which is a shame. But I expect that a documentary like this will attract a lot broader audience than a 30 minute section of The Edge explaining his delay pedal setup.mrd wrote:It was pretty wishy-washy over-all.
What's wrong with him by the way? As a guitar player he may not be as much a wizard as the likes of Steve Vai, but he does some interesting stuff with his setups and has good songwriting skills. As an overall musician I'd rate him pretty high and he appears far less narcissistic than Bono is.

looks like scandinavia is being dissed.
Re: "It Might Get Loud" guitar documentary
I have seen it some while ago and I really enjoyed it. It's very interesting to experience these 3 guys' perspectives on guitar playing. Moreover, Jack White is really innovative when it comes to very old stuff being induced in a modern rock context.

A friend of mine attended an opening screening of it and found it a little underwhelming. I'll still give it a watch when it comes out thoughaxbaby wrote:jus saw it on dv d , i lked it a hole lot.
