I've got two partitions, one for system files and applications and another one for storing mp3s/movies, etc. So I installed quake 3 (manually and then applying the patch) to the storage partition. Then after I formatted the system partition and installed windows again, I ran quake 3 without changing anything and it worked \o/

Yes it works, but not every game will. Some won't launch without some of the registry info.
