Strategy sure, but science? C'mon, that makes it sound like it's shit on a higher level. I don't think "science" is a term that is aptly used when combined with golf or football for that matter either.

it might be getting lost in the translation to dutch. 'science' is an appropriate general english term for the study of anything where the scientific method can be applied, including sports. it'd never be used without a qualifying prefix/suffix/clause/context - unless you were talking about the traditional sciences (physics, chemistry, biology etc), and then you'd probably use the specific name for the discipline.

Well I still don't get it. In what way is a scientific method applied to any sport? Maybe I'm taking it too literally as I'm not familiar with the term in this context.

essentially, if we didn't use 'science' as a general term then we'd need to think of a name for every discipline (e.g. putting 'ology' on the end of random words) or specify each of the sciences within a subject (e.g. physiology, psychology and biomechanics for the study of martial arts).

Think of things like giving footballers icebaths after they've played a match. Or analyizng the formation and making stats on ballposession. A really dutch example would be the klapschaats

All stuff made up with the help of sciency stuff.

This isn't as complicated as you guys are making it. It's not like this subject is like football science or anything.
