Why

Post by lars63 »

I want to add a computer to my network via wireless, My Linksys ( WRT31ON)router requires a ten digit pin, the Vista Operating System computer I want to add to the network will allow seven digits. Could someone give me a hint please

What pin? Could you post a screenshot of both the router and OS menus in question?

aye, it's difficult to figure out what's happening without screenshots.

maybe the 10-digit pin is the passphrase for connecting to the wireless network and the other one is for a windows 7/vista homegroup?

The router security calls it a Wireless Security Key, In Vista at the wireless setup page it asks for a PIN to connect to the secured Network, that is where I tried typing in the Wireless Security Key, that PIN space only allows seven number/digits.I no longer have web space to post up photos so can't post a screen shot

oh, it's one of those ones where there's a PIN sticker (usually also has the mac address on it) on the router.

if nobody has a better/proper solution, you could try setting the router up for regular WPA instead of wireless PIN - but you'd need to reconnect every machine on the network with WPA (assuming they're all currently using the wireless PIN). google says:
