what's the deal dutch0z?
I don't smoke marijuana, but if I did, and also planned to visit Amsterdam at some stage in the future, I'd be INCENSED.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
first ive heard of it.
also, not gonna happen.
they tried it a while back. theres some politicians with some insecurity issues who feel the only reason people are coming to Amsterdam is because of the weed while ignoring whatever else the city has to offer.
topnotch journalism tho, with the misleading headline n all.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
Yeah I heard about it on the radio. It's some crazy idea by the new Dutch cabinet and wouldn't be just there for Amsterdam. They want to introduce a pass that Dutch people can get and have to show when they want to buy marijuana. Obviously tourists wouldn't get such a pass and thus have no access to the weed.
The mayor of Amsterdam is against it, for a very simple reason. Out of the 4 million tourists Amsterdam sees anually, approximately 1 million visits it's coffee shops.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
So they want to take away the only reason people visit a shit hole, thus pretty much fucking themselves in the arse in the process... Sounds pretty much like any other government to me.
Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
Have you ever been to Amsterdam, o'dium?

Yeah, amazingly, I went with school many moons back. Obviously not for the green. Its like going on holiday to Scunthorpe.Eraser wrote:Have you ever been to Amsterdam, o'dium?
Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
You dont even want to buy weed or hasj in the netherlands, not in coffeeshops anyway; it's common for weed to be dried using hair-fixation spray, or to speed up the 'hasjing' process it is often fried while its wrapped in tin foil or other shite.
If you really want to smoke marijuana, grow your own plants and get a THC % equivilant of the alcohol % in beer; for the same reason why it is healther to drink a liter of beer than it is to drink a liter of whiskey.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
Amsterdam does have a problem with the coffeeshops, there being just too many which leads to diminished quality and some that are quite plainly used for criminal ends - but this obviously isn't the way to fix it. The current policy can't be reversed without significant social and economic upheaval, even halfassed attempts like this meet a lot of resistance. And rightly so, because the advantages are nill and the disadvantages are many.
The only proper solution now is to fully legalize it and put taxes on the stuff. The market will sort out itself once the criminal element has been removed.
also lol @ corsair, no dude, wtf?

It is more than obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

It is of no surprise whatsoever that a Conservative has proposed this. Next he'll move on to closing sex shops...because they're icky.
This is exactly what happened in Copenhagen when the Conservative government closed down Christiania...all the dope moved from one, centralized and relatively controlled point of sale to being spread around the city, with various gangs/criminals fighting over control. Anytime anyone says they should tear down a stable system and let it spread uncontrollably in every direction...well...I can't help but laugh at the stupidity of it.'This is very f---ed up,'' he said. ''All these coffee shops will have to close.''
"They say it's to avoid criminality but it will create more criminality. If they can't go to coffee shops they will buy it from Dutch people on the streets,'' another shopkeeper said.

I've been saying that for 20 years but, since it makes entirely too much sense, it'll never be implemented.Ryoki wrote:The only proper solution now is to fully legalize it and put taxes on the stuff. The market will sort out itself once the criminal element has been removed.

I should have been more accurate, and mention this is only true if you roll a joint full of the stuff and fancy smoking it all in one go. You don't want to continually re-light the joint, as every first 'suck' to make it lit shouldn't be inhaled; so if you do relight it continuously, you'd basically be throwing most of it away.
If you'd make a cake, or use vaporisation; then yes, the higher the percentage the better - but neither of these two things occur frequently within the shops themselves.
@ryoki, if you would have expressed yourself in proper language, I might've believed you weren't biased.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
There is no correlation of any kind between "percentage of THC and percentage of alcohol". A person who is as stoned as they could possibly get does not suffer the same effects as a person who is as drunk as they could possibly get. If you think that the two drugs are somehow similar in any way (besides being social drugs) in both their effects on people's bodies and effects on societies then you've watched too much mainstream media.corsair wrote:I should have been more accurate, and mention this is only true if you roll a joint full of the stuff and fancy smoking it all in one go.GONNAFISTYA wrote: It is more than obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Here's proper language: I'm taking issue with almost every one of your statements in your two posts in this thread sir, they are simply not true, nonesense or urban myths. Could pick em apart one by one but i can't be arsed.

Re: what's the deal dutch0z?
@ GKY: I'm wasn't hoping to implicate any similarities as such; It's a comparison I made because _most_ available alcoholic drinks range from an alcohol percentage of 5 to 40 percent, and this range resembles that of the THC % in available marijuana pretty closely - I meant this, and only this. What I did try to say, is that higher percentages, require a more responsible behaviour from the user in order to have little or no negative effect.
Responsible use obviously requires understanding of what is being used. And since this thread is about marijuana tourism, I assume that these tourists have very little understanding. If they had the knowledge, they'd probably be users or have some access to marijuana and thus they would probably not feel the need to be tourists for this cause. I think this is one of the reasons for why they're trying to enforce this change in policy. I don't know the details for this cards system, but I do know it is a practical way to discriminate between dutchees and tourists, but I can imagine it would be possible to have viable ways of obtaining a temporary card as a foreigner.
The point is that it creates a barrier (also for duthcees), which will affect those who cause the trouble most - which would be another reason for this policy.
@ryoki, feel free to do so
