Items needed:
- Q3 CD
256 MB Flash drive
PakScape
I think you can use your Q3 installed on the computer, I did not.
Copy the quake3.exe into the pen drive. Then copy the baseq3 folder into the pen drive except the pk0.pk3. The pk0 file is too big to fit into the drive without editing it. I would copy the pk0.pk3 to the desktop and open it in PakScape. First delete the music, the whole folder.
Then open the music folder and delete the world, teamplay, and player folders.
Then go into the video folder and delete everything except the idlogo.roQ and the intro.roQ movies.
Now you can copy the pk0.pk3 into your baseq3 folder on your pen drive.
You should have some left over space, you can use that for data or custom maps. I put some of Kaziganthe’s CTF maps in there, you can get his maps here .:Kaziganthe’s Place:.
When you start up Q3 like this it will ask for your key, just hit accept, or enter your key if you like.
Because the music and some of the sounds aren’t there you will get a list of can’t find files ect, this will create a botlib file on the pen drive, I recommend deleting it often as it can probably get pretty big.
This should work on any machine with the requirements and video drivers installed, without the video drivers, I.E. standard MS drivers, it doesn’t contain OpenGL support and won’t run Q3. If you have a larger pen drive you can fit more data, maps or leave some of the sounds, movies and maybe even the music.
Now why would anyone want or need Q3 onto a small little Pen Drive. Well it can be used at work or school, as long as you don’t have Novell that blocks anyone from opening exe files. Or if you are going to a friends or relatives house and need something to do without lugging your own rig over. As far as I can tell using this doesn’t leave any traces, but I am ready to stand corrected.
