Lewis Hamilton is to leave McLaren after signing to race for Mercedes from next season.

The move, predicted by BBC Sport earlier this month, will be announced on Friday and will have huge repercussions throughout Formula 1.

It has forced Michael Schumacher out of Mercedes but it it is not clear whether the German legend will go back into retirement or look for another team.

Sauber driver Sergio Perez has signed as Hamilton's replacement at McLaren.

A massive wave of madness will now ensue...! Fun for next year. I am quite sure Hamilton has his sights set on 2014 so he has a year to help develope the new chasis and the engine will arguably be the best of the bunch (again)

Not been paying attention this season, I take it? Hamilton has a habit of driving erratically and dangerously, causing accidents (including taking out his teammate) and then blaming other people. He's a whiny, pissy bitch, he went so far as to tweet confidential car setup/telemetry information after Button (with a newer wing) put up a faster lap than him. I've seen him take Massa out of a race and then threaten Massa when he made a semi-smartass comment about it. He's an amazingly talented driver, don't get me wrong, he's just a complete dick.

Don't even get me started on Easter Island Head Alonso.

I don't agree that all the drivers are pampered douchebags. I've not seen Rosberg, Webber, Vettel, Button, or in fact most of the drivers act like arrogant assholes. Schumacher used to be famous for it, but even he smartened up. I'd say the asshats are the exception and Hamilton is their queen.

Schumacher has always been a dangerous cunt when he's not leading (either the race or his teammate) and I thought he was the pinnacle of such behavior...but I guess he's got a new roommate in Hamilton.

Button and Vettel seem to me to be the only class acts in that whole sport, but as I said, I don't really pay attention to the noise, just the race.

Webber is the classiest, because he doesn't even play the"nice" game in front of the media... he keeps it real, all the time. To me he comes off as the most genuine bloke in the bunch.

To me it's obvious Mclaren didn't want him :/, he's arguably the better driver of the 2 but they bent over backwards last season to give Button the same deal as Hamilton, then this season they wanted to give Lewis a reduced contract ?. Have read that Mclaren took the bet that Lewis wouldn't leave, imo someones been pissed off and they're all a bunch of arseholes. That shit with offering him a last minute deal as bullshit n all, happens in football all the time, it's just something to protect their arse from pissed off fans with .

Be interesting to see if Mercedes have something up their sleeve, doubtful though ?, can't see him winning much in the near future and now it's all about the Kimi show

Here is my take on it;

Hamilton has been made aware that Mercedes are plowing a lot of resourcing into the 2014 car, apparently more than McLaren
Team 19, his ""people" made him think McLaren didn't have his best interest at heart
Easier to do private sponsorship deals
Button is liked more than he is within McLaren

It is a gamble, and in the short term it will do him no favours BUT if he can drag that car up like Schumi did at Ferarri all those years ago then it will be worth it.
As I see it, I don't think he will win a championship for 3 years

Schumi needed to leave as much as I wanted him to do well. I wasn't excited about his return in the first place though. I'm happy for Hamilton to be honest. He's a bit reckless sometimes, but is very passionate. This move will be good for him.

That being said, Alonso will take the championship this year and Massa better lose his seat.
