I don't enjoy video games anymore

Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
Yeah, I've slowed waaaay down. I think the last game I bought was Skyrim. I played it for like 100 hours, but never finished it. Can't seem to get back into any games now. I'll be buying GTA5, so hopefully it will boost my interest back up...

Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
It's not that I really lose interest, I just have so much else going on in my life that I simply don't have the time to play games a lot anymore.
I do realize that due to the limited amount of time I can spend on gaming, I am kind of selective in the games I play. Skyrim for example, tickled my interest, but I just know a 50hr game is going to take me 3 months to complete. So I actually prefer shorter games to long ones.
I also prefer emotionally engaging games over dumb shooters like Gears of War or Call of Duty. I also spend some time on quirky indie games because they tend to be suitable for short bursts of playing and often do interesting and fascinating things.

Pretty much this.Eraser wrote:It's not that I really lose interest, I just have so much else going on in my life that I simply don't have the time to play games a lot anymore.

I lose interest in games pretty quick, and I'm impatient with games that don't grab my attention from the get-go. Back when I was a kid, I had all the time in the world to play all the games I couldn't afford. Now that I bought all the games, I don't have time to sit down and play any of them. It's the curse of adulthood.

I've been gravitating to indie games as well, and for the same reasons as you. I remember when games used to take 30-40 hours to beat, excluding second playthoughts and extra content. Then games started coming out that only had 20 hours of gameplay. At first I thought this was terrible, but now 20 hours is ideal. In fact, the indie games with 5-15 hours of content is even more appealing to me. I went from playing games for a good 40+ hours a week when I was a student to playing games maybe 5-10 hours a week. Honestly I'd rather read a book. The kid inside me is sad to admit that, since I always thought I'd be a gamer for life...
Although I think a lot of my apathy toward gaming has to do with the glut of medeocre triple-A titles out there. Maybe the next generation of consoles will usher in more quality games and my inner kid will be appeased. A lot of the games certainly seem to have potential, like Watch_Dogs, The Division, et cetera.
On another note, it's interesting how the gaming industry, the developers, and the core gamers are all growing up together. It's a very unique time for gamers, and when we're all old farts it'll be interesting to see where the next generation of developers take gamers.

that is a neat observation, and i find thinking about it very interesting indeed!

Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
that describes exactly my situation. In some way, I think dumping 100 hours in a game and not even getting half way through, kinda mentally put me off from getting into any other game.xer0s wrote:Yeah, I've slowed waaaay down. Also on the other side of it, I got more shit to do, and spending even an hour playing some video game , gets to me too much, and that mentally sets me up to not enjoy that time at all anyway.
But I will dust off my 2 year old card for watch dogs.
Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
But I like that shit. I wouldn't have put 100 hours into it otherwise...
Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
Yup, couldn't even be bothered to keep playing Arkham City.Plan B wrote:I get bored after 10 seconds. I just don't care. I'm done.

Most of the time I'm more inclined to build/fix something rather than playing a game.
Just finished rebuilding/swapping a ole passat for my father to drive.

Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
I used to have like 4 times your ping and still crush you so bad you'd have a tantrum and disconnect. Then next game you'd try to say it was one of your kids playing until I started destroying you again resulting in another disconnect. lol you were pathetic.

Re: I don't enjoy video games anymore
I find that it depends on the game and on my mood at the time. If the game is really good, I'll play it until the end. As soon as I feel that it's not worth my time, I stop playing it.
I do entertained by games, though, so I like playing them. I agree that often it's sort of difficult to get into, kind of like starting to read a new book.

This is like when people brag about not having a TV.
