I wish they'd put some tech into american football. This business of figuring out where to spot the ball, and if the ball crossed the goal line is dumb. But I guess the extra 5 minutes of replay evaluation leads to more ad revenue.

Hmmm, I think you're half right.

With corruption refs can be non neutral such as Howard Webb for Man UTD and FIFA / FAs are corrupt and they'll do everything off field from accepting bribes for favours to fixing games if they could, which is pretty much what crushed the Italian league. I don't think it's rampant in the English league, or other leagues such as the Germans or Spanish, there's too many bodies to allow match fixing to occur but things like Howard Webb reffing most of Man UTDs top fixtures takes the piss, but Man UTD being a bigger club they would likely get the benefit of 50/50 decisions just like if it were Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs and it's more likely down to the repercussions of fucking a team with a lot of money and their chances at competing.

There have been cases across Europe with clubs getting caught for match fixing but this has usually been caught by the local FA and have been punished for it n all. My point is whenever an FA / FIFA has seen an infringement they've reacted quickly to it, if only to protect their own image. I'm more concerned about the corruption when these bodies conduct business with other organisations / countries, because when they work together they're just 1 big bully and is usually for personnel gain.

With video tech, I think they began testing back as early as 2006 when the only other sport using Hawk Eye was Tennis, that was only put in use in 01/02 ?. This was cancelled because the tech couldn't be fair by including it across all clubs around the world and was cancelled in 07/08, because some of these clubs were poor and couldn't afford the expensive Hawk Eye system. It was picked up again after dubious goals in the 2010 World Cup for alternatives, loads of testing between 2 different systems has been going on since 2011/2012 internationally and domestically where they are now using 2 different systems, Hawk Eye for top clubs and a cheaper alternative for lower division teams, they then had to allow enough time for these clubs to include the tech into their stadiums.

Hawk Eye isn't the most reliable piece technology either, it too has made decisions that would make Howard Webb red.
