Your favourite stand up comedians?
So I have been off work this week with man flu and a bit of a throat/chest infection (not going to the Drs to get antibiotics as I think my body has this one covered with bed rest and tea) so I have been watching plenty of stand up. It got me thinking that there are quite a few revered comedians that I tried watching, but I just don't get. Louis CK being a prime example. I watched about 45 minutes of his show and laughed about 4 times. I very much enjoyed most of what Bill Hicks has to say, but I think George Carling is a far superior comedian. Billy Connolly tops my list though, the bloke is fantastic.
Anyway, I love stand up so I thought I would see if you had any recommendations or if you also didn't get some of the acts that are constantly praised as brilliant?

I've seen Dave Attell 3 times, and he was amazing. Jim Breuer is on the circuit again... Mitch Hedberg, Steven Wright. Jim Jefferies.
The Kevin Hart stand ups on Netflix get me going pretty good.
Feel better

Give Jim Jefferies a go
Re: Your favourite stand up comedians?
Yeah Jim Jefferies is good stuff... his cocaine fueled escapades are especially hilarious
I'm with you on CK too, his humour doesn't click with me. Also watched about 3 minutes of a Kevin Hart thing about a week ago, to call him unfunny is being really kind.

Eddie Izzard and George Carlin. Anyone else is just lame in comparison.
Re: Your favourite stand up comedians?
Mention of Billy Connolly reminded me of Dave Allen & Benny Hill.

I'm not really liking any present day comedians. Old school comedians I love include Carlin, Kinison, Pryor. Seinfeld is pretty good, and he's still at it...

Kevin Bridges
Doug Stanhope
Stewart Lee
Sean Lock's not bad too
best way to see stand-ups is on panel shows. they just seem funnier. if you're bored just watch old eps of 8 out of 10 cats, was it something i said, and QI

I do enjoy panel shows as they seem to bounce off each other. Mock the Week is good as are the others you mentioned.
I am enjoying Doug - know him from Weekly Wipe

No Peter Kay yet?
The Big Yin (although his later stuff can fall a bit flat i find)
Lee Evans
Bill Bailey
Ross Noble (fairly random tho)
I was trying to think of a female stand-up, but I can't think of any (good ones, that is). In the UK we always see Sarah millican, shappi khorsandi etc... always found them to be a bit crappy.
