of a movie where one guy was sanctioned/comfined into some kind of enivronment/abyss. THereve been many movies where unsuspecting good people find themselves in such a scenario by stepping on a crack, opening up a wormhole in the basement, or opening a door to some abandoned shithouse

I'm not 100% sure much about the theme match, but it may be The Shining (by Stanley Kubrick, 1980) with Jack Nicholson in main role.
