Video card question
Are the AGP ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb and AGP Asus 6600GT 128mb about the same performance-wise, or is one of them better?

Actually, here's a direct comparison:

But it seems off. There, the GT totally takes the trophy, but I thought it was more even.

:icon19: I so thought he said 6600GT. Why on earth would the 6800GT be compared to the 9800Pro?
The 6800GT would beat the 9800Pro in absolutely anything, ever.
But Toxic, please tell me you're not gonna buy one for your XP 2000+. It's overkill, if you're gonna build your new PC in a year, save up for it man. Don't spend the money now.
The G70 and R520 are coming out in 1-2 months. By then they should have dropped in price and have been upgraded (ie. GT
Ultra). So you could get something probably twice as powerful as the 6800GT for the same price as it is now.

simple answer, yes..FragaGeddon wrote:Does ram have an effect on your FPS?
I'm not talking about video ram, but just motherboard ram.
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

Yeah, the timings are the most common difference between different RAM at the same speed.
Some RAM (such as OCZ VX) has higher bandwidth somehow, don't ask me what makes it have more.
Also, overclockability is a difference between RAM. Some RAM can't really be overclocked, and some RAM (like BH-5 I have and TCCD chips) can go very high at very low timings.
All of these things have an impact on framerate, among other things.
P.S. Your timings of 2.5-3-3-8 are fairly slow. Ideal would be 2-2-2-5...for most systems. But at stock speeds, I bet you'd be hard pressed to see more than a 10% difference with those timings. So in a game where you only get 60FPS, 66FPS really isn't noticable.
But every little bit helps.
