Surgery tomorrow..yay.

Post by tnf »

9:30 am. At least I'll be getting pain meds to bring home.

And maybe some IV morphine or something while I'm there.

Simple procedure apparently, though.

If you get morphine IV, tell if you get side-effects like nausea, obstipation. I'm quite interested because I'm going to working in a large clinical morphine study in september (randomized, double blind, phase III)

As soon as you wake up, remember to yell "OMG! I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!"

And also after you wake up...make sure they didn't do any other operations that they shouldn't have.

I fucking loved having an operation. It's worth it just for the Intesive Care afterwards. Morphine is fucking awesome

Seriously, they could've told me my testicles have dropped off and I only have 5 minutes to live and I wouldn't have given a shit.

And I'm back...with a huge fucking guaze pad taped to my lower back and iodine stains all over the skin.

Shit, what a boring fucking morning. They called me back shortly after arriving, at which point the nurse hooked me up to the IV (just saline) and then left me sitting there for 1.5 hours. Now, as your system fills with saline, you feel like you've got to piss like fucking mad, but it is a pain in the ass to do so.

Anyhow, its done and now I'm going to be laid up for a few days. Bleh.

BTW - no problems with IV drugs. They gave me fentanyl through the IV, and something specifically for nausea...not sure what though.

fentanyl doesn't work long anyway and they probably gave you primperan (metoclopramide) to counteract the effects of opiate-induced nausea.
