I have my old 300W power supply and I'm thinking about using it..am I doing a fatal mistake?

Serious answers only here...morons stay out.

Well its more so dependant on your graphics card, if you have PCI-E graphics card you need at least 450w. I'd go for 600w to be safe

After scanning through 3 Google pages just from the brief info on each page looks like the average is at least 450W...

What socket? 754, 939? What core? Newcastle, Winchester, Venice?

There's a big difference, but they probably all are fairly on par (or in the case of Venice below) your current CPU for power consumption.

Also, many new GPUs use as much power as a Venice core...

I have the socket 939 3500+.

I'm using a 400W right now, but I ran it with a 300W with no problems (and that was also with a GeForce 6800 GT overclocked card.)

Video card? I've got the same Athlon 64, a DFI LANParty UT, and a gig of RAM, and run a 500W PSU. As cheap as big ones are now, I'd say get a bigger one to future-proof and be safe.

I didn't make the Calculator, but if that's all you need then you're good.

I need at least a 400watt PSP, but I'm sure I have alot more crap to run.

A good processor only takes 68watts to run. What do you think you got there anyway?
