Live8
I still can't decide whether I think London or Philly will be the best show. Coldplay, the Killers, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Snoop, Snow Patrol, U2, and Velvelt Revolver vs Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, P Diddy and Sarah McLachlan.
Of course, it wouldn't even be close if McCartney, Madonna, U2 and Pink Floyd weren't past their prime.
EDIT: and what's with the concerts being free? If they want to help Africa, they could charge $5 admission, get 99.9999% of the people (who the fuck wouldnt pay a measly five bucks to see artists like those?) and make millions to combat AIDS or poverty or terrorism or George W Bush or whatever it is these days.

The following people and organisations have been involved in making LIVE 8 the greatest show ever:
Bono, Richard Curtis, Sir Bob Geldof, Harvey Goldsmith, John Kennedy, Midge Ure along with the staff of their organisations around the world and many local partners who are making the concerts possible - from venue owners and local authorities to volunteers and police forces.
The concert is being produced by a number of individuals internationally including Richard Curtis, Sir Bob Geldorf, Harvey Goldsmith, John Kennedy and Kevin Wall with Ken Ehrlich, Larry Magid, Tim Sexton, Greg Sills and Russell Simmons.
The beneficiary of excess revenue after the costs of the concerts is the Band Aid Charitable Trust.

aye. used to know this lad who was getting himself skilled up as a pilot by doing aid deliveries in the drc. had to quit after half a year because he said it was depressing watching 'soldiers' steal everything moments after he dropped it off, that and being shot at occasionally. he was at the arse-end of south africa before that and said big bits of it were just a massive killing floor.Don Carlos wrote:Worthless waste of time

does my head in sometimes because mutual friends will call him a racist for slagging off african countries. that's part of the problem in a way, people that are afraid to look at africa and admit the place is run by even worse shitheads than we've got here - just because they don't want to appear racist, their heads don't let them think far enough to recognise what could be done to start improving things out there.

I live within 100 miles of Edinburgh, but I couldn't persuade anyone to go with me...4days wrote:any uk folks going to mad bob's g8 protest? was thinking about heading up to join the regular anti-capitalism lot but edinburgh looks bloody tiny. hope it doesn't all end in tears.

And I didn't fancy going on my own.
