so i bought some more ram for BF2**nerd alert**

Post by shadd_ »

every problem i had with bf2(minus the shitty browser)is gone. i was getting black textures, freezing up for 30 secs at a time, crashing to desktop once in a while.

i stuck another 512 stick in(for a total 1.5 gigs), and fuck me if it doesnt run perfect. fucking flawless, it's like a whole new game. i can run it now at 1280x1024 4xaa and all settings maxed. not 1 single issue since.

fucking beautiful game, beautiful.

anyways, a few tips to improve your performance,

set your agp aperature in the bios to 256megs.(1280x1024 4xaa uses roughly 450mb video memory).

ram, lots of ram. 1.5 gigs is min for smooth, bug free gameplay. the game just hammers 1 gig. so much so, it fucks right up. i had physical memory usage peak at 1490mb.

specs: 2.5ghz a64, 800xtpe, 1.5 gigs ram

Hmm, looks like I need to do this as well. Runs pretty well with the Gb I have now, but more is always better. Now if those fucking tards at EA will fix the damn lag issues and the ranking/unlocks stupidity, it'll be great.

Yeah, I have 1GB of RAM and it runs beautifully.

The only problem I've had is when the ranked servers occationally lag out and I lose the connection (usually right after a map change). That has only happened on ranked servers though, and it's the only problem I've seen so far, apart from the occational case of people having the wrong color of their tags.

Yeah, I bought more RAM too. The game seemed to lag while the maps were loading and windows seemed to lag for a few seconds after I exited the game. I got another gig RAM for a grand total of 2gigs. I hope this helps and it sounds like it will.

yeah you may get away with 1 gig with low video settings. if you want high res, aa+af, you NEED at least 1.5.

ram is dirt cheap right now. 512 stick for $60cnd.

just uses so much video ram at higher res, graphics settings. if the game has to cache video textures onto the harddrive youre fucked.

with 256meg aperature set and plenty of ram, it can store video textures to the ram instead of the hardrive.

I have 512 Ram and with the lowest texture and geometry settings, the game runs fine with the exception of some slight stutters at the beginning of a round. Now, this is lowest settings mind you, but the point is that you can enjoy this game with 512 ram and still kick a tremendous amount of ass online, for people wondering about whether their system will suffice.

I was going to buy it but then decided that I would need a new computer to be able to enjoy it.

Those problems sound a lot like the ones I experienced with the demo at times. Specially just after I connected to servers with a lot of people on it. Now though I have doubled my RAM (not for this game though) and now with 2GB of it, maybe the retail game will go smoother =)

Since I got 2 gigs it runs flawlessly too.
Hopefully they'll fix the shitload of bugs in this weeks rumoured patch and do something with that browser so I don't have to keep manually trying to get into my always full clan server.

You either have the video set low or have a 512mb video card and 10,000rmp drives.

i was getting alot of what i thought could be lag when i had 1 gig. with more ram it's not swapping textures from the hardrive giving you little pauses.

i find the netcode to be awesome. my ping is always rock steady.

Odd.. i have 1gig and played in highest detail in 1280x1024 with AA and AF on.. hmm..

Sounds like you need a video upgrade, not ram..

with everything maxed out, you get no pauses or skips when there is lots of planes exploding etc on 32-64 player servers with 1 gig?

i call bullshit, the game uses 450+megs of video ram at that res. and my video card crushes yours at high res aa+af.

I can run the game just fine in @1280 screenrez with a gig of memory as long as I turn the lighting down to medium. Everything else can be max. If I do turn the lighting up to max along with everything else, I have to pretty much travel the whole map, and view every character model to kill the stuttering. Once everything is cached I can play lag free untill the next map loads.
