"SUPERFETCH" Tweak... Anyone tried it?

Post by rep »

????

I'm reading other people claiming their XP Pro PCs start in half the time, and any Windows Explorer function happens instantly (Clicking the start menu if you have a million things in it, for example, or loading a lot of Explorer windows)

Also, apparently browsers load instantly now.

I thought this was for Longhorn and also a reason why the os needs more system memory.

The only reason why its faster is they added a superfetch feature to the prefetcher. If you look at the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetcher

you will notice in windows xp

EnablePrefetcher = 3 and you will notice in windows longhorn
EnableSuperfetch = 1

Well, guess what? You can put the EnableSuperfetch = 1 in windows xp and get the same speed

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I tired it and got no difference in performance. Altho my registry doesn't have that exact string, istead of Prefetcher at the end it has PrefetchParameters. I added the DWORD valuve of EnableSuperfetch and 1 in first hexidecimal and then tried it in decimal. Nothing changed.

Every site and forum I've read has been the same stuff:

No changes noticed.

But in every thread, there are two or three clowns who say, "Dude! My XP boots up in half the time, and I can load programs instantly now!"

TheInquirer reported this, but on the same page they have a fake news story. I don't now if this is real or not.

Hahaha! Sounds like someone we know.

The Inquirer is hardly an accurate news source. I rate it somewhere below Fox news and somewhere above the Church of Scientology's monthly news flyer.
