Ugly map...

Post by Hipshot »

http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/1-vt38903.h ... sc&start=0

Sorry, I just hafto post that here, read the thread look at the pictures, somehow this thread is really fun, I don't know why... seems the guy don't care about what people say to him after a while though. Hl2World is also famous for 'not being nice' to people if things looks bad, they say what they think _always_ And its hard not following in that line.

I love Q3W LEM :)

"Installing Hammer / WC used to be an IQ test, and it was an unwritten rule that you never told anyone how to do it. This resulted in a lot less shitty maps, because people would get discouraged and stop trying because they couldn't even get it to work. I wish it was like that now. "

Sort of a good idea actually...

Oh my god that's almost as much fun to read through as the "Daikatona Doom 3 mod" forum at doom3world.org a while back. That guy has no business making maps. But the guys were a bit harsh on him! :D

Hipshot, your maps always look MUCH better than that... I just thought I'd add that.

Then again, you never know. He might become a very good mapper. I've seen quite a few folks come through here that had absolutely horrible maps to start out with and became very good. That would be like telling Einstien never to try math again because he failed in school. Never ever deny anyone the chance to try something and be proud of what they have done even if it sucks horribly.

Ok, I'm climbing off my soapbox now. :)

pretty damn cool!
I really like that tall building and the bridge in the middle!
Something you should add is like a skybox then i think you should sell it to valve or something!
Keep up the good work!!

Talking about real bad maps: c_lyubart

It's still in the lvlworld queue and I think it really doesn't deserve to get out...
Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread but I just had to get this off my chest :)

There are quite a few misalinged "textures" in real life and it matches the fact that real life is ugly in essence.

In an extreme case scenario if you look at a woman carefuly, she should turn out to be a gorilla as such.

Well, for the guys own little project and or begginer mapping attempts that is fine. But maybe he shouldn't have posted it for all to see until he manages to create a reall nice looking map eh? ;)

That was what he did wrong. Anyone care to post up thier first few attempts? I don't mean first completed maps, I mean the first few abhorrations that we all made. I'm sure I have a few still lurking around somewhere.
