Terrain made from brushes is best but if you really need to use patches then I would suggest you create a simple 3x3 patch and drag the middle into the corners. making it a 2x2 patch. make a buch of these, this way LOD has no effect and it may be easier to make whatever shape you need without having...

does look a little strange, like the light should be pointing to the floor but the wall above it has the same intensity.

there are 2 surface inspectors in 1.4 one for normal brushes and another for patches. simply pressing "S" yields the normal brushes inspector and "Shift +S" yields the patches inspector. does this solve your problem?

do most people use 1.4 or have they moved to 1.5 yet?

if i connect a trigger_teleporter to 2 misc_teleporter_dest then will it choose the other one if someone is in the way or will it randomly choose one.. if it works at all. im trying to keep from having people telefraging their team mates

pjw - "The player should be able to pass through from the back side." wouldnt that look like a peson walked through a wall? also wouldnt the person inside of the room be able to look out but the person on the other side wouldnt be able to look in. that could cause camping problems, no? o'd...
