If you're specifically looking for bands with the Gothenburg sound then:

Dark Tranquillity
Soilwork (not their last 2 albums, they suck)

Bloodbath is a death metal tribute band containing members from Opeth (although not on the album you have) and Katatonia. Both excellent bands by the way. They are basically emulating the old school (late 80's/early 90's) death metal sound of bands like Entombed and Dismember. So they do not sound u...

No it doesn't, moron. I'm talking about the fact that the maps are barren, bland and contain the same 5 props over and over again (how many times do I have to find that same blue hammer?). No amount of high detail settings is going to change that. The office building bits were vaguely decent at best...

FEAR runs horribly. I haven't played Q4 yet, but Doom 3 ran like butter on my system if that is any indication. FEAR can't even run smoothly on 1024x768 and looks terrible compared to D3. Where the hell is the detail? The levels are only slightly above something like HL1 or System Shock 2 when it co...

The very first thing the host of that show says is "You used to have a normal life... then suddenly you wake up from the anaeshetic and you realize that your life will never be the same again.... how do you react to that?" I don't know what the exact context is because they don't mention i...

What do you guys use to organize your information?

I'm looking for a piece of software that allows me to organize a whole bunch of random information on my PC so I can quickly look stuff up in it. And by information I mean stuff like todo lists, lists of stuff I need to buy, school assignments, programmer notes and useful code snippets, etc.. Basica...

In Flames was a good band up until 2000, then they turned into wallet-chain wearing MTV-friendly Ozzfest-playing emocore kids.

But as I understand it both decoders (players) and encoders fall under the patent. If they didn't then there would be no problem making Q3 support mp3 playback.

This is kind of offtopic, but regarding that mp3 licensing and stuff, does anyone know how Winamp can actually exist?

I know encoders like LAME are distributed as source-only because license fees only apply to binaries. But how does Winamp do it?

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

New game by id and Splash Damage was announced just now: http://www.shacknews.com/docs/press/051605_quakewars.x Including a picture as well: http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/et_quakewars/Enemy+Territory:+Quake+Wars/1/thumbs/051605_quakewars.jpg Looks pretty good I'd say. I'm 23. I definitely do not play games nearly as much as I used to. But I don't really blame that on me "growing up". I still love games to death. I blame it more on the fact that the quality of games has rapidly deteriorated over the years. Nowadays the industry consists of a small amount...

DVD-rom/CD-rom noise problems

I got a new DVD-rom drive today to replace my old one because it was getting too noisy. It's an LG drive, which I read were supposed to be quiet, but it is infact quite the opposite. It's easily as noisy as my old Pioneer drive, if not worse. Now I could care less at what speed my player reads DVDs ...

Odd. I have it running fine on XP without doing anything special (not running it in compatibility mode either). I just never had the installer issue because I installed it way back on some older OS and just kept the installed folder on my disk. Have you applied the patch? That might fix it. You can ...

Well I don't quite follow that logic, but okay... How is the programming forum ever going to pick up if it doesn't exist anymore? I doubt people who used to post there are going to start posting in the level editing forum. I only found out because I just checked the other forums to see where those 3...

They did merge it. Those 3 threads are still here on this forum. I do hope it's a mistake or a temporary thing because this is not very convenient. I don't think I'm going to stick around if I have to sift through a mapping forum for programming topics.
