Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Post by Die »

New game by id and Splash Damage was announced just now: http://www.shacknews.com/docs/press/051605_quakewars.x

Including a picture as well: http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/et_q ... kewars.jpg

Looks pretty good I'd say. I wonder what that MegaTexture technology entails exactly though. I hadn't heard of it before. I guess this is what Carmack has been doing the past few months?

Also since it apparantly has some persistant stuff I wonder if this is going to be a monthly fee type of game (like Planetside).

Awesome.

I'm guessing MegaTextures refers to textures that are larger than 512x512

bitWISE?

Fact: djbob, sock, RR2DO2, LloydM, and Torchy have all posted on q3w LEM (quite frequently actually)... and perhaps more from SD as well. Funny part is is that they'll appear out of left feild if someone makes a really saavy, techie q3 mod post.

You know this surely?

Battlefields are perfectly rendered using MegaTexture, a totally new rendering technology developed by id Software that crunches millions of polygons and a gigabyte-scale texture into a single, seamless and un-tiled landscape with unique detail down to the square inch or the un-obscured distant horizon.
huh? Sounds odd.

Yeah, sounds like a neat idea to me.

Objective based gameplay with railguns and traditional RLs.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

Lol so why is this called enemy territory and quake? It's gonna be like a hybrid game based on both worlds?

Looks nice tho. :)

I would guess that Enemy Territory implies that it's going to play like enemy territory, with objective, team gameplay. I don't anticipate any tie-ins with the Wolfenstein universe.

I'm astonished.
Guess it's more like a hybrid between Enemy Territory, Quake and Battlefield 2.

"Splash Damage is building Quake Wars using a heavily-modified DOOM 3 engine, with the help of id Software's MegaTexture technology, which the company says allows for crunching "millions of polygons and a gigabyte-scale texture into a single, seamless and un-tiled landscape." The game will also feature dynamic lighting, a day and night cycle, and the realistic weather, atmosphere, and vegetation effects that any reasonable gamer should demand. The fields of battle will be huge, open areas -- perhaps putting to rest concerns that the DOOM 3 engine can only handle narrow indoor scenes"

Finally all those fucking whiners about the Doom 3 engine are shut up.
