I don't use the catalyst control center to run my fan. But they did set the fan speed too low by default. I run mine at 35-40% all the time and the noise isn't bad at all and it doesn't get ridiculously hot during full loads. Haven't looked at a Linux workaround for that though. Supposedly there is...
