Re: Screenshots
@WHAT!! that looks great, although your lights look like they're pressed up against the wall, do you use shaders? or light entities? Combination of both. I've gotta tweak the lighting a bit. I kind of rushed through that heh. I made the map in like 3 or 4 days though. I just figured I'd let it sit ...

I'd tone that down a tiny bit. It looks pretty evenly lit, but also kind of bland.

@ Delirium. I don't know really, maybe there was a stone brick floor from the beginning, but when the communists came took over the place, they just put clang floor everywhere. But that was probably decades ago, local lowlifes now steals parts of the structure to sell for crack and the metal are pr...

I wrote something several years ago. Should probably rewrite this again though (pretty bad at sum things down good at that time I think). I have some free time now, might actually sit down and see what I can do. Can't promise anything though, That's a good shader, using it in my new level too and w...

Re: Screenshots
Is there any documentation on how to do what you just described? Also, you have a shader/texture in crescent I'd like to use, but I can't get it to work right. It's that shader of falling particles and no matter what I do the particles don't fade towards the edge of the brush after I run a compile. ...

Hipshot,
How did you get such crisp clouds with terragen? I guess I understand that as a base, but there is a lot of variation between what I've seen people do with that compared to what you've done with your skyboxes.

Transparency mostly, but since I can't get from a stock image to a transparent texture I can't even begin to work on anything else. The few times I tried it wouldn't work at all and I don't know what I did wrong. Granted it was a year ago, I just wish someone had a step by step instruction on how to...

That's one of the few things I've seen from you where I can't tell if it's from you or not. I mean it has similar texture styling, but the color just doesn't seem to be there. It just seems too "quake" for what you normally do.

If you're in the US and want to play you can try out my server.
so.nuclearfallout.net
It's got all of my custom maps as well as the community map pack released alongside .5. So far we've been having a blast with the new version and the updates have been great.

Re: Screenshots
thats the point. I despise the "realistic" look and the maps all made from the same stock prefabs arranged in different patterns. I'm making this map to give people something different. I wrote custom scripts for it too to alter gameplay a bit. This map has doors that can be jammed in pla...

Re: Sparse Voxel Octree (idTech6)
Well I was talking about more in terms of mapping. If the level of detail for models is this big, how the hell can the average user put together a good map on the same level with good gameplay? Not saying there arn't talented people out there, but its much easier in quake 3/warsow to make a decent l...

Re: Sparse Voxel Octree (idTech6)
If you want to see that for newer games, just look at Valve's direction and you'll find it. I've been looking for decent third party stuff from Source games, and I'm just not seeing the same level of quality that I saw in quake 3. Maybe mappers are just more spread out since once you're into Unreal...

Re: Sparse Voxel Octree (idTech6)
One thing I wonder about is how will this level of graphical detail play into the hands of the third party mod/mapping communities? I mean, right now it seems like anything at Id Tech 4/Source and beyond is just an incredible amount of work to do right by the hands of the average player, and bumping...

Half Life texture conversion?
Is it possible to convert half life VTF files to TGAs or JPGs to be used in quake maps? I can't find any where that says how to decompile textures from VTF back into either of these formats and I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible.
