Looks perfect to me. The black lines on the sky are indeed gone. Beautiful map!

Re: Quake maps and mods for 2022

I've been playing Quake One as well. Initially the new release, but I quickly dropped that and went back to quakespasm. The community is pretty active, though there is still a bit on an inferiority complex compared to the (old) DOOM community which sees more releases, big episodes, etc. Still, it's ...

Re: [BETA] 13hell "Hell's Gate - Extended"

Absolutely gorgeous map. I don't know if I'm inspired or discouraged. Lol. One issue I'm having, though I'm sure it's on my end, there are black lines in the skybox? I remember this being a graphics card issue some years back. I messed around with my graphics driver settings but no luck. Just fyi, i...

Thanks for this. I'm loving NetRadiant. I don't know how I survived without WASD camera movement.

Re: [BETA] 13zone "The Dark Zone - RMX"

Beautiful, smooth playing map. I'm so glad to see people still making levels for the old games. I loved your House of Cthon remix, as well. Such a great aesthetic. I didn't notice any issues with the map, though, it does feel less "brutal" than the Quake One version, probably because of th...

Re: Who has influenced you the most in mapping?

Do any of you remember Headshot from the old Quake 1 days? Amazing mapper and a cool dude. And of course, John Romero, Levelord and American McGee were my first real influences.

As far as Quake 3, Sparth, Sock, Cardigan, and Hipshot inspire by their awesomeness, rather than directly influence.

Re: Good Level Design Schools?

Hello everyone, I've been doing some college research lately. Sadly my family/friends/high school counselors don't know as much about the video game industry as they do the more traditional fields. I'm sure I could just ship myself off to any old school with a standard game design program but I'm v...

Re: Good Level Design Schools?

Thanks for the quick responses! I used to see a lot of Guild Hall ads on various game-related websites but never looked into it until I randomly saw in Scythe's profile that he is a student there. I've been to their site a number of times and it looks like a pretty cool school, though I was turned ...

Re: What map is this?

Seeing these old shots always makes me really nostalgic. I loved the "Quake One" look, updated with curves and glowing lights. I so wanted Quake 3 to look like that. Ah well, great game either way.

Re: Focal Point - Beta

Sock, Really good looking map, just had to get that out of the way. Bots played fine for me, really. Pretty "frantic" and fast paced. I didn't notice any major issues with them, though they seemed to get stuck briefly/occasionally on the wall columns, but I doubt there's much you can do ab...

Quake Live textures in Quake 3

Hey, do any of you guys know if it's legal to use Quake Live textures in regular Quake 3 maps? I know you aren't usually supposed to use textures from one game in another, but since Quake Live is free, I wonder if it would it be okay to use/redistribute the textures?

Resource for flag textures?

Does anyone know if there a good texture pack/site out there with a variety of flags/banners? Like CTF style decorative wall flags?

Re: [Quake 3] Return to the Cistern (tabq1dm5)

Really lovely map, Tabun. Excellent texture and shader work, as well as all the little details. It makes me think of what Quake could be like today, if they'd have kept making them, instead of turning it into the Borg from Star Trek.

This is seriously only your second released map? Very impressive.

D1? Hmm, not sure what you mean. Doom maybe? I started mapping with Quake 1. Actually messed around with Doom, but I never released anything. It's hard to believe there was once a time that Doom mapping was a complicated new thing to learn.

Thank you very much, AEon. I'll definitely get the missing texture sorted, I always seem to miss one. I have not done any hinting yet, I wanted to see if folks liked the layout before I went any further. Regarding a possible leak, or technical issue... there's nothing that I know of, but I will doub...

Beta 2 - Updated map and screens- 12/03 So, it's been an interesting few weeks. A layoff, a virus, and a reformatted hard drive meant I had to recreate this map from scratch. I've made a lot of changes, optimizations, and improvements, and tried to incorporate as much of your feedback as could. I h...

Re: Rage

From everything I've read, it looks like idtech5 will make game development easier for pros, but it's not going to be at all friendly for the lone amateur mapper. A shame, but it looks like modding is going to become more and more of an exclusive club.
