Re: The Election Thread

Under W, the budget for the NIH (National Institute of Health) roughly tripled. What? Link? Budget growth for the NIH started doubling under Clinton's admin, and continued until the middle of Bush's, when it was cut in 2003. It stayed flat then, and wasn't until 2008 that the NIH saw budget increas...

ps cool glass werldhed. did you use a local shop to do it? It's a local studio that had a special event: Glass blowing and beer tasting -- blow your own glass and then sample local beer. They were supposed to be pint glasses, but I made mine twice as big as everyone else's. :olo: Here it is next to...

Re: Remember the 90s?

america in the 90s looked a lot like america in the 80s In terms of fashion, "80s" lasted until 1993 or so. And the "90s" went at least until 2001. Some of those pictures are a bit of a stretch... Lisa Frank? Pure 80s. Will Smith playing NES? That must be 1990, at the latest. Ha...

Re: What are you listening to

I like the original, but it's a bit too spacey and over-produced IMO. The bass in Bowie's version is just goofy sounding.
He started with the basis for a great song, but Nirvana nailed it.

Re: Tell Google to forget you

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Google's data only has to do with what you search for with google, right? And how does that combine with my Google account? It's not like you sign in to Google to search... If you leave yourself logged in via a cookie. Ahhh... gotcha. Guess it's a moot point ...

I've read most of it. I never sat down and read it cover-to-cover. Definitely some interesting bits to it, and of course a lot of tedious parts too.

Olympic Nat'l Park is fucking awesome. Did you see both sections of the park or just the inland part? Re: Heat

My only concerns about having it up to code were:

1. if it came up when trying to sell the house,
2. if Canada handles that stuff differently than the US. For all I know you have a Royal Mounted Gas-Line Inspector who comes by every month.

I thought that when my parents ran a line to their garage, they just did it themselves. But the more I think about it, they must've at least had someone check it out for them. I have this weird notion that you're in Canada... ? Is that true? Regulations about what you can and can't do yourself proba...

Re: Heat

Natural gas. BTU heaters pump out a good amount of air, so it keeps the heat circulating. Helps keep a steady temp without too much energy. My parents installed one of these in their garage a couple years ago. Works like a charm. When you say there's no gas line, do you mean there currently isn...

Cool.

And to bolster my science geek cred, I'll just point out that "nurd" is the name of a protein complex involved in gene expression. That is, unfortunately, the first thing I thought of when I read Tsakali's post. :tear:

Re: How long do you wait for a Doctor?

Usually docs are late because their patients are late. I don't know how it works in socialist Europe, but in the US, many (most?) clinics require docs to see patients as long as they show up within a certain time frame. I don't remember what that time is exactly, and it probably varies between clini...
