Hmmm... Router resetting itself.

Post by rep »

My router seems to be resetting itself after a few hours of use. It's never done it when I'm in a game, but it seems to always be not connected to the modem when I get home after a few hours of being out and about, and also when I wake up.

I unplug the thing, plug it back in, and in two seconds it's back online. I checked all the settings and there is nothing about automatically turning off the connection in an idle state.

I also tested it out by downloading a few large files overnight from NASA to see if the connection would be functional in the morning. Nope.

What gives?

Does your ISP use dynamic IPs (DHCP)?

Could be a few different things. Shite firmware, shite router, excess heat, or electrical interference.

Dlink's consumer and small business grade routers are pretty damned good actually. Their whole switch line right up to enterprise-grade are excellent as well.

Bwahahahahaha. Linksys has by far the shittiest firmware and technical support among any of the consumer-grade brands. When Cisco took over they really should have sacked the entire Linksys dev team and put some of their own guys in there. Don't even get me started on quality assurance as many beta firmwares are more stable than final code.

It depends on the model. Which is the one that you have?

here's the deal...my router fucking owns so I don't need technical support..good support is useful when you have a shitty router..any questions?

why do you think cisco bought linksys..cause it's shit?

Did you check your router's preferences? I know Netgear's are set up to close any connection after idling for 60 minutes.

DI 624. it doesn't have the latest firmware because that's when the intermittent connectivity rears its ugly head.

Heh. Yeah, Cisco bought them with the plan of rebranding and reworking feature-sets to step into the SOHO and consumer market. The problem is that Cisco hasn't cleaned house and brought in good devs and quality control yet. And having decent technical support is kind of requisite for any company selling hardware IMO. Have you ever had a chance to deal with Cisco's enterprise support. Now those people pretty much define what good support should be. It's just too bad their child company isn't structured in hte same way.
