What is the correct way to do this, I've ran into some problems with hinting these areas so I'm pretty sure this is wrong...(and aren't all brushes that are angled like this supposed to be detail anyway?)

Curved/Angled Corners
This is about the best you're going to do with hinting that angle/curve/hallway/thingie:

Also, angles and detail have nothing to do with each other. Detail should simply be fussy/small and/or non-vis-blocking brushwork. Structural brushes can be quite funky at times and need not be cubic/axial.
Edit: Beaten like a filthy stepchild by Plan C.

I beat the internet; the end guy is hard.

So angles like that don't need to be made into detail?
Well, from your pic I gather that this corridor borders directly on The Void, so the brushes would *need* to be structural.
If you plan to add a caulk hull later on, though, then, yes, they can be made detail.
But keep in mind that the VIS-process only takes the structural brushes into account.
In the case of this corridor, you'd have to place your caulk hull brushes exactly flush with the detail corridor brushes to get VIS-blocking going on.
Hehe, TBH, I wasn't a 100% positive that hint brush in my pic would work, being flush with the non-axial corridor brush face (been a long time).
Sweet relief when pjw affirmed things
I'd rather stretch those non-axial corridor parts a good 64 units for good messure too, though, and have the hint brush overlap some.
