At what temp should a A64 3500+ with a stock hsf and closed case run?

I think its a Venice core.

Max load should stay below 55° or so. I think most idle between 32-36 and load in the mid to high 40s though.

P.S.
I'd never run a stock HSF. There are so many great alternatives, some very cheap. Just for the silence if you don't care about temps.

i would disagree with you psyche, this computer is for a regular user, ( maby playing the odd game ) so spending an extra $20-$30 to shave off ~2º isent worth it IMO..

Now putting Thermal Paste ( I.e. Artic Silver ) on the Stock HSF instead of the thermal pad, that i agree with :)

anyway, Psy is right with the temps, thats about right.

Btw, with a Leadtek 6600GT 128mb:

378fps in q3 1024x768 everything on max
17xxx in 3dmark2k1
8xxx in 3dmark 2k3

Keep in mind that if you do not use the heatsink that came with it and/or use acrtic silver, you can void the warranty.

:olo:
And how are they going to know if you don't use the stock HSF?

Amidy: I said even if you don't care about the cooling, the noise is much better with an upgraded HSF. There are some in that price range that are dead silent while performing better.

Sure, the average person may not appreciate it but a lot of people who know enough to build their own systems should.

The stock HSF is very quiet, and the cpu was retail so whatever.
