WOW
a friend of mine wants an upgrade, he just got into playing wow.
so i need to decide what is more important, the CPU, or another videocard.
So here comes the question, is WOW more dependant on GFX? or Cpu?
i have a feeling its more dependant on GPU's.
anyway, just for refrence i am leaning more towards his GFX card.
this is his current spec's
Amd XP 2200+ ( 1.8GHZ ) paired with a ATI 9600LE
again, i am leaning more towards the Videocard more then anything, i just want to make sure.

Ram and CPU dependent for any major city, or raiding events.. while GPU helps its not the be end all for performance..
That 9600LE will do ok in 1024x768 in med detail with no AA or anything on..
Id personally suggest 1.5gigs or more of ram if its going to be played for anything end game, 40 man raids can be quite taxing and youll need that help from the memory..
Cpu, should again be ok, id just keep an eye on framerates.. while quake requires a solid 125 for the most part, WoW is very playable in the 15-20fps area in most cases..
Any other questions? lemme know..
To put things into a view as a whole here..
Im running a AMD 64 3000, 7800GTX, 2gigs of pc3200 flat 2-2-2 muskin ram..
at peak time in major citys, i get anywhere from 30-60fps in 1280x1024 High detail with 8x aa running.. in heavy AOE raid stuff or major pvp i can dip into the low 20s sometimes high 10s.. Tho thats with 100+ things going on at once in a small area tho, so take it with a grain of salt..
Mind you, i get 100+ in outdoor areas with NOTHING going on..

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

yea, right now he is kicking 512megs of ram, and i think his budget is around 350 canadian.
so, picking up a 6600 GT for around 240.. and leaving the rest for ram ( Maby another gig ontop of his 512 ) should be good enough, right?
Thats my train of thaught in this situation.
but i wanted to post to make sure

Should be good to go then.. i know people playing on less.. it just sucks to play on a crappy system..AmIdYfReAk wrote:yea, right now he is kicking 512megs of ram, and i think his budget is around 350 canadian.

Hm.. i suppose you might be right.. tho itll suck when he upgrades later and has to throw 400+ at 1 card just to throw another 400 at it later.. :-|AmIdYfReAk wrote:thats a hard thing to go soap...
the situation:
6600GT 128meg PCI-E = $245
X800 256meg PCI-E = $255
and considering the X800 is quite a bit faster, its not really a regret at all..

Yep, which was the whole idea of getting nvidia with that board outright then later plot another 6600GT in there and have a nice upgradeAmIdYfReAk wrote:btw, this is what i am talking about when i say the X800 is quite a bit faster.

SOAP, no offense, but that's just bad advice.
By the time you upgrade to a 2nd card, there is a single card out that can get that performance. And after selling your old card and instead of buying a second one of those, you can get that new card. Not to mention, you'll save hundreds of dollars a year on electricity.
SLI is only beneficial for maximum performance NOW. For upgrades, it's just not what they want you to think it is.
P.S. Don't people have problems with SLI & WOW?

How much is that OCZ RAM you're buying? Usually the OCZ RAM's are quite expensive, with little benefit. Try some Geil RAM ftw.AmIdYfReAk wrote:lol, he just dropped a bombshell on me... two actually
