Depending on what you want to build, either brushes or patches can be used to create any kind of circular or curved shapes. Whether you should choose to use brushes or patches depends on the situation, ease of use and possible performance benefits.
It's in the manual:

spellcheck much?
1. Detail brushes are less likely to cause additional cuts to occur in non-detail brushes that they touch ... thus reducing triangle counts. This can help reduce frame rate.
Why would I wanna reduce frame rate? :icon32:
Ok I never knew about those brushes, are the used often or no?

That's because detail brushes are Q3. It's probably a good idea when you post a new topic to make it clear that you're asking about Q4. This is still the Q3 LE&M forum.primaltheory wrote:Ok I never knew about those brushes

Curved shapes (in Q3 or Q4) are usually best done with patches, and then monster/player clipped afterwards. You can do some pretty intricate sort-of-curved shapes with brushes, depending on how small of a grid you want to drop to, and how much clipping up you want to do, but it's usually more trouble than it's worth, IMO.
I beat the internet; the end guy is hard.
