Half life 2 is..
I thought it was gonna be endless zombies, but I killed them all in the end. There was a really annoying bit later with endless amounts of those face huggers and a few black poisonous ones. I just shot at the black ones and triggered the others to come up the stairs and took em one by one. Heluva lot of them though.
I've just now got a beach buggy. It's going well!

I just picked up the blade from the broken motor and used it to mow them down.eepberries wrote:Ravenholm was supposed to be scary? Oh :icon30:Jackal wrote:Ravenholm disappointed me. Everyone hyped up how scary it was so much that it never really peaked.
Personally I just thought it was the most annoying/worst part of the game. It was basically "Hay let's make you run out of ammo and not give you any more then throw a bunch of monsters at you. Instant gameplay tension!!! Rite!?" It annoyed the shit out of me. I hate developers that think making for tense, interesting, and challenging gameplay is as simple as not giving you enough ammo.
Yes, they do end after a while.netrex wrote:I'm pretty sure I've killed all that spawns there. Will have to check it out.Grudge wrote:In this area. They keep respawning in the alleys to the left and to the right. If you don't find the way to go quick, you'll end up having to bash an endless supply of zombies with the crowbar.

next time, try staying up on the beams at the bottom of the mine shaft and picking them off with the pistol. they can't get you if you're up there but you're in LOS to trigger them all. also, using the physgun to pull barrels under you and shooting them when the crabs are under you is a good way of taking out a few at a timeDRuM wrote:I thought it was gonna be endless zombies, but I killed them all in the end. another trick someone did, but i've never managed it, is to carry the combine ball from the play-catch with Dog, carry it thru Ravenholm, then drop it down into the mine and let it roll over the crabs. frankly that's a dickload of effort just to save a couple of pistol clips though
You can also get to a couple of spots where they can't jump up to you, but they jump high enough for you to pick them off with the gravity gun. Takes a while like that though.seremtan wrote:next time, try staying up on the beams at the bottom of the mine shaft and picking them off with the pistol. they can't get you if you're up there but you're in LOS to trigger them all. also, using the physgun to pull barrels under you and shooting them when the crabs are under you is a good way of taking out a few at a timeDRuM wrote:I thought it was gonna be endless zombies, but I killed them all in the end. Have you ever even tried it? It's a good game and a nice change from average dm, and if I recall correctly HL2 wasn't going to have mp until one guy made it on his spare time or something. Oh and by the way your opinions don't count as facts.Duhard wrote:rofl hl2 is one of the worst mp games ever conceived..but a moron like drum would feel right at home..

I didn't think all that much of anticitizen one, actually. My favourite part of the game was the bit from the beginning through to arriving at the new black mesa - but it was a bit drive, drive, drive, PHYSICS PUZZLE, drive, drive, PHYSICS PUZZLE.
The main problem with the game for me is that whenever they introduce a new concept, they ALWAYS repeat it - like the bit where you feed those anemone thingies barrels and then blow them up..... and then do it again about 10 second further into the map.

You just suck. You barely need to use those planks if you use the rock outcrops and a touch on the sand will only spawn 3 lions. YOu can actually just sprint the whole thing and stay safe. Just make sure to turn on the thumpers generator up in the derelict house.MKJ wrote:the whole quicksand part was terrible IMO. dont touch the sand or a billion antlions will come so gravgun 3 planks of wood for 5 miles around !
first time did i did the beach the last part around the thumper took me ages since i used metal sheets the whole way and didn't see a single antlion
i think the criticism that valve made the game a bit too easy is valid though. for instance, the antlion guards (the big antlions). there are three you come into close contact with, and they can all be dealt with without a scratch: on the beach (just sprint past and hide in that rock cleft to the right of the cave entrance and let the mounted gunner take him out), in the shower block (climb on to the railing at the end and touch the invisible trigger, then jump back down the same side you hopped up and run back down the passageway and there he is below you - just use up your SMG and pistol to take him out), and finally at the end of the prison section where he's being fought by a some grunts (run past, gravgun that shit out of the way of the exit and leave 'em to it)

F.E.A.R. was really good.. wasent HL2, but it was good none the less..DRuM wrote:What did people here play after half life 2 that they enjoyed as much? I have Q4 SP to play and F.E.A.R to get hold of, but seriously, what will match the awe and spectacle that is half life 2? What else has anything as good as the grav gun?
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

Does FEAR get repetitive, or does it stay fresh and add new things a lot like HL2? I don't mind repetitive things, I mean I really had a ball playing doom3, but after HL2, you do get spoilt. It's really nice to have ever changing scenery and new toys to play with or blow up ( ie, buggys, boats, dropships, striders, etc).

Fear does get a bit repetetive, but as this repetition is mostly the insanely cool combat, it doesn't matter too much.
Don't go in expecting a massive variety of enemies. You're fighting a clone army after all...
Edit: If you can handle a change of pace, you could do worse than pick up "Thief: Deadly Shadows".
A compelling story, wonderful acting and the scariest level in any game of recent years make it a fantastic experience.

Yeah I might take your advice on that, I kind of fancy playing thief deadly shadows, the screenshots look amazing.
Btw, this is cool. The ending is funny.
