Fuse keeps blowing.

Post by MrPink »

I formatted my computer yesterday, and since then my computer has blown the fuse in the plug a pretty impressive 4 times, anyone know what might be causing this? and is there any way for me to resolve this?

any help appreciated.

You didn't do anything else besides format it?

If not, then there's not really anyway it can be related. Did you plug any extra devices into your power strip or anything?

the only thing I did was format it, nothing else changed, but a mate of mine has been round since I made this thread and he agrees with you, must just be conincidence and that I should just get a new power supply as apparantly these are the first things to go? (I have had this computer for nearly 3 years now).

Nah, they're not necessarily the first things to go, but they can fail just like anything else.

Where is the fuse you're talking about? I assume you mean a fuse in your power strip, right?

Try connecting the pc to another socket with another cord.

the fuse in the plug head. anyway, my mate reset all of the bios (cmos? something like that) settings and my computer's been running fine since, think I might have overclocked the machine a bit too much! will probably replace the power supply thing anyway though, don't want it blowing and taking half of my machine with it

Quite a few PSU's are sophisticated enough that when they fail or short out, they dont take anything with it. If it was me i'd replace the power lead with a new one, but it seems like your comp is stable...........for now.

Get a new PSU, its not worth taking the chance of blowing your system to save < $100

A new PSU is in order. It's hard to believe that an O/c could draw just enough power to over load the PSU.
