Which gametype would you like for a q3w server?

What is a good gametype to run on the server?

So iluvquake4 wants to be a gracious host and hook up q3w with a q4 server, as I understand. :icon32:

What gametype would people here want?

How about one with a mod and one with baseq4?

Since url redirect is working nicely, custom maps won't be a problem.

I voted GTR because it is a really fun mod with a lot of features.
My server uses GTR now, and a lot of people like it. This mod perfect start for noobs too (not only rail skill dependent).

Just check it ;)

Those problems are a thing of the past. Mods download to the client machine just as easily as the maps do.

I have no problem running multiple servers. It's just a question of who wants to admin them. That's more work than what I'll be putting in.

I noticed in the Q4 Browser a customer is running an EscapedTurkey Dallas Internap server called ThunderDome. If you want to get an idea of what the connection is like.

Ahhh... But that's where the beauty of Q4Max is. :) All Menu driven. I run a pretty popular FFA server and they bitch and moan every time I try something other than Q4Max. hehehehe

Who wants to admin them? How about we setup about 4 of them with different mods, etc. Does that sound good?

Okay here's the plan.

Four Quake 4 servers.

Q4max
Q4base
???
???

What should the other two be?

Admining a server can be quite a bit of work. 4 servers, 4 admins?

Okay, Hex, you're in. Which server/mod, etc do you wish to admin? Or do you feel you could handle all of them?

Anyone else?

I'm sure doomer would be a good choice for server admin too. He had admin duties on 3+ or so servers here already.

But IMHO, 4 servers for either q4 or q3 would be overkill. Unless you really have that phat pipe that is not being used at all. ;o

There is probably a way to get a server to reboot and change gamemodes too, with some handy script help. That would save you from running 2 servers for 2 mods, but I dunno how you would go about doing that. Misantropia might now.

No need, for a script, it's how everything is setup:

I have approximately 30 machines up and running in 3 different datacenters using Internap. All Dual Opteron, 4 gigs RAM, RAID 5. :icon31:

You must be pretty loaded then :o

And here you are having a sucky conn. at home? Heh, kinda ironic. (Referring to the thread where you found out your 300kb upload was slowing down q4). :D

It pays the bills and the occasional movie and pizza. My prices are too low to make me rich. I get satisifaction from helping admins who can't afford something more expensive.

Yah, it is ironic. :)

I'm getting nice pings to each of your three locations posted on your home
page @ escapedturkey.com.

I'll definately be stopping by and playing when time permits.

the first one is up -
207.210.238.209:28004

its just q4base, with a stock map rotation q4dm1/7/8/10/11

Lets have some suggestions for maps we'd like to see and I'll get them up there.

A q4max server is coming next, maybe later today. (will put the same requested customs on it)

I have a q4mon status page, clicky to see who's there.

Well crap. I try and connect and I'm getting client unknown to auth.

I've been up-to-date with the point releases. I did the 1.1 patch awhile back. Then did the simple update from 1.1 to 1.2

Hmmmm. Reading other problems with client unknown to auth I guess
I can try starting over with my q4config to see if that changes anything.

Well Hex. I'll be stopping by your server when I get this situated. LoL!

But first some time out in the real world. *waves* tonight I'll see what's up.
