Realtek AC'97 Audio - Scratching noises

Post by Fjoggs »

Well uh, not really scratching, but a really annoying 'low' buzz continuesly plays over my speakers. What's _very_ weird is that it goes away if I right click on a folder.

Before, I connected my Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500 into my Creative Audigy Platinum 1 card at first, because I used an older motherboard.
As I've just formatted I thought I might aswell try my new motherboard's on-board soundcard, because it sounded good when I read the specs. I connected the "Front, rear, sub/center" into the appropiate places, installed the drivers, fired up winamp and was struck by how awesome this sounds compared to my old system.
BUT, the buzzing/scratching sound is _very_ annoying, and if I can't get this off, I'll install my Creative card again. :(

Any ideas? Tried checking about on google and the realtek site, but couldn't find anything useful. I might be searching with bad keywords though, since I'm not totally sure as to how you'd specify this problem.

EDIT: It kinda reminds me of the sound you hear when you try to find a new station on the radio. Kinda grainy.

Crosstalk from your USB sockets.

If you have USB headers on the board, try moving your mouse down to a lower slot away from the speaker outputs.

Should work.

Thanks for the suggestions! Sadly, I don't really understand them. :icon32:
HSF = ?
And Foo, USB headers is simply usb plugs? I'll try to move my mouse and keyboard to the lower level.

Cheers.

No, if you open up your computer and depending on the age of your motherboard, you'll see some wires on the top left and right bottom for USB headers 12,34 and 56,78. It's just the way they've translated 8 USB headers in a board, etc.
