im sure a number of people would disagree with that second part.
students, people on welfare, etc. yeah, you're right.
for some reason, you're really quick to put a pretentious touch on everything.

anyway, to clarify, a lot of indie groups or underground musicians have been able to get more exposure due to piracy. its not just about connections or getting a lucky break any more. im sure theres still some of that but if youre an excellent group, word of mouth passes much more quickly due to piracy from what i can tell.

i know theres a number of groups i would never have heard of if i didn't download (and then purchase) some albums.

i know the same is true for anime titles. piracy has actually helped a lot of titles and the industry "break through".

they don't need piracy for exposure. myspace is a perfect example of this. and if they wanted to put up their own website and include a couple of downloads for free, even better.

an actual decent '90s collection' would have to include all the main genres that reached their height/demise therein, ie:

Alt Rock - Radiohead, The Pixies, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, etc

Electronic - Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, etc

Hip Hop - Wu Tang Clan (and most of theyre individual members), Blackalicious, Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, etc

Trip Hop - Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, Portishead, etc

and to some extent Metal like Pantera, Sepultura, etc

.....not the stereotypical pop shite that got all the airplay during the decade :icon13:

why does everyone assume that an asian kid is really "stealing" when he says the word "downloading?"

I have the Billboard top 100 songs for every year from 1970 to 2000. It is quite spectacular and has alot of good songs
