Which codec pack should I install?

I heard that there can be problems if you install some codec packs.

DivX videos have started being split in two with green all over them. This happened after upgrading to Windows Media Player 9.
I don't know if it started before then cause it's a while since I ran a DivX video but I think that might have changed something.

Edit: This is using VLC to play them.

I'd already tried reinstalling it without uninstalling it. Now I've tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it. It does the same thing still.

I've installed the K-Lite codec pack and that hasn't fixed it.

I remembered that people said that the K-Lite codec pack didn't usually cause problems.

I installed the DivX player and the codec that came with it. It plays it the same as VLC does.

Same greenness, same split down the middle of the screen.

Actually the correct thing to say would be 'Learn not to post when drunk'

Is this all on winXP? Try it with a player like media player classic. If it continues then i cant help you. I just install K-lite and run up MPC and walaa.

Yes this is on WinXP. I tried Media Player Classic, it's even worse. Just a green screen with a cyan bar down the middle and no sound.

I've just found that MP4 files won't play either. Same thing happens, except this time Media Player Classic does the same as VLC.

I managed to get DivX videos to play in Media Player Classic after uninstalling DivX (cause The Codecs pack said to first) and installing The Codecs pack, but they still play the same in VLC. Also MP4 files still play messed up.

Edit: The picture quality's terrible though, the picture is all washed out. Damn these codec packs.

Just buy the OS and most of your problems will probably disappear. FFS a legit OEM copy of XP Home costs $96 Canadian. Thats not a big investment for something you use daily.
