Also that note that f1 cars have no fancy stuff, no airbags (like thats gonna save you at 407km/h) etc and that the Veyron does and it can out perfor... The F1 can out manouver, out accelerate and around a track out perform the Veyron . when it takes a 16 piston, 4 turbod, 10 radiator, special key car to go as fast as an F1 can, when an F1 has 4 pistos, 2 turbos, and maybe 2 radiators...its got nothing on em.

despite all that, very nice production car...
i think he was just saying that the veryron can go quicker in a straight line whilst still having the ability to go on the road (H&S standards and all that bullshit being added on) also taking into consideration that the f1 engine is changed after every 2 races

i dont think top gear ever said it would be quicker round a track than an F1 car

- anyone see last night episode ? fucking cracking

and that's only barely faster... 7km/h faster than a race prepared Honda F1 on michelin F1 track tires. (407.4 vs 400.459kph)

source
so its faster ? ;]

and honda aint exactly bottom of the pile

certainly gives an F1 a run for its money. (and a lot less of it ;) )
i'd put money that the BMW or Ferrari V-10 could top it... but the honda was certainly one of the stronger motors for top-end.
I remember schumacher and ferrari wanted to have a go at the flying mile but i think honda is still the only team that have had the stones to actually give it a shot.

sweet, either way... quite a remarkable car

did i hear correctly in that VW make a loss of profit whenever one of them is sold (quite a substantial loss)

read this:
For this, VW went to Ricardo, a British company that makes gearboxes for various Formula One teams.

“God, it was hard,” said one of the engineers I know vaguely. “The gearbox in an F1 car only has to last a few hours. Volkswagen wanted the Veyron’s to last 10 or 20 years. And remember, the Bugatti is a damn sight more powerful than any F1 car.”

The result, a seven-speed double-clutch flappy paddle affair, took a team of 50 engineers five years to perfect.
and if you're still questioning if they're taking a loss on the sticker price... eat your socks.

In the episode in which Clarkson drove the Veyron against the airplane across Europe he said that although it has a retail price of £850k each one costs £5 million to build. That's PS3 style losses...

Although I believe an F1 car would be quicker off the line I would be interested to see how they stacked up once rolling. I've seen several reports saying that from 100mph up a McLaren F1 will out-accelerate a standard F1 car, though obviously neither the Macca nor a Veyron could match an F1 car's cornering ability as Grand Prix cars tend to run with plenty of downforce.

I remember hearing that from about 100mph onwards an F1 car generates more than it's own weight in downforce. So theoretically if all the cars in a race were above 100mph you could turn the entire track upside down and they wouldn't fall off, which would look quite trippy.... :paranoid:

Yes they said it costs 5 million to build and then they sell 'em for 1 million :icon12:

Work that out.

Watched the episode last night here :icon26:

Incredible video, thanks andyman for the link.

Get the bit about the Maximum Security test track?
