Multiple programs keep crashing.

I have no idea what the problem is, all sorts of my programs just crash and don't work, dosbox, trillian, pidgeon, my anti-virus software, and other programs. I'm not sure what the cause could be, but it doesn't seem like it would be the programs fault, something else has to be causing the crashes. Any advice on how to handl... (program crashed)

Overheating, bad ram, faulty hard drive. Less hardware-oriented problems include a corrupted operating system or other critical file, a virus, or a loose plug somewhere.

This only recently started to occur when I got a dsl line about a week or two ago.. Other then that everything hardware wise has been the same.

Did you scan for spyware/viruses/etc.

Also if you suspect Windows is on the loose and needs to be re-installed, I'd try installing ms virtual pc or vmware fist and run a new copy of windows in a virtual state and install some of your apps. It's like a clean install of windows and if windows is REALLY the culprit, tihs will guarantee it.

downloading ms virtual pc now. I ran spyware, didn't pick up anything really, what it did though was deleted, and the problem persists. I can't run anti-virus since it crashes upon startup.

EDIT: Virtual pc gives me some shit about my os isn't supported, it's xp home edition..

ignore that, it installs and runs just fine.

On a hunch, how are you connecting to your DSL connection? Via a network router or a USB modem?

You mean my vm idea? What if the hardware was the culprit, and vm wouldn't run good because of that, then you have 2 systems (regular and vm) acting up so at least you can maybe consider having some hardware bits going bad?

I meant ignore the warning about unsupported operating system. MS VPC runs fine on XP Home.

It won't run, it hangs at DHCP, then gives me a boot error.
