The forums over at Bethesda are going nuts. They just went trough 6 threads, 18 pages each, in the last 2 and half hours. With people waiting for the trailer to be released.
So if you have been waiting for Fallout 3 since 1998 your chance to take a look at it is today.

the fact that they made the elder scrolls games is the main reason i'm deathly afraid that fallout 3 will suck.
and now i'm nervous about seeing this trailor, since it will potentially confirm that fear.
the fear of suckage comes from bethesda's track record of making highly detailed FIRST PERSON games with zero plot or creative NPCs.
Fallout needs 3 things to be fallout.
1 - SPECIAL/Perk system
2 - 3rd person isometric view
3 - tons of creative and interactive NPCs
bottom line: fallout 3 will suck if they make it a first person, eye candy filled, morrowind game with no plot and boring NPCs.

Third person comes in different flavours Grudge. Oblivion's third person perspective is an abortion that can be described as "functional" at best, and mostly serves to highlight the piss-poor character animation.
Then there's the third person used by MMORPGs, like WoW or Guild Wars, a chase camera, which while nice, still doesn't offer the freedom that most Fallout players are used to.
Finally, we have the RTS style 3D camera, as best illustrated by Dawn of War et al.
In fact, there's a turn-based game out there already which uses this system: Silent Storm. THAT'S the kind of camera a new Fallout needs.
As for KoTOR's implementation of turn based combat, it's passable, but not fantastic. Again, we only need to look to Silent Storm to see that turn based can be implemented successfully in a modern game.
KoTOR (and indeed pretty much all Bioware content) is Real Time + Pause, not a good substitute.
The weirdos over at NMA may be scarily fanatical, but in this I agree with them. Stray too much from the original formula and you start to lose what makes Fallout, well, Fallout.

the 3rd person camera in morrowind/oblivion is terrible.Grudge wrote:you sound like the guys at the fallout forums
3rd person isometric, lol
you know that you can play Oblivion in 3rd person too, right? Aiming missile weapons is a bit hard that way, but if they choose to go with turn based combat a la KOTOR, they'd get the best of two worlds
laff all you want, if it isn't 3rd person sky-cam it will suck.
i'd be much less nervous about it being trash, if UBI had bought it and given the job to Nival.
the combat system they made for "Silent Storm" would have been a brilliant starting point for fallout 3.
and i probably sound like the people on the follout forums, because i'm a fallout fan.

hmm... i can't get more than the first 20 sec of the official one to play...

I have to agree about Oblivo.0n It was basically Morrowind 1.5 with updated gfx. Such a borefestDr_Watson wrote:the fact that they made the elder scrolls games is the main reason i'm deathly afraid that fallout 3 will suck.

i Freekin LOVED fallout 1 and 2, Tatic's was a HUGE dissapointment for me.. Hopefully this will be berer ( i dotn think it will, but it may be )
And all i have to say is if Dogmeat aint in it, i will be pissed.
For all of you that havent played the first two, the camera went from a Fairly high up 3-5th person view that Got aggrevating at times. Graphic's was no real concern for the game, things where a little beter then "pixels" but the in-depth NPC's and Situations that you can get into are just AWESOME..
if you Ever get a chance, read the walk though of Number 2, when you go to Reno you can do a mission and move on.. or you can Get in with the Gang's, Fuck the Mayer's wife, plot with her and kill her husband then YOU are the Mayor of Reno.
its all about Spending time and Exploring, and i just hope that this one will follow that game play rather then making things look pirrdy and a few awesome missions that are mandatory with no real hidden things.
I thought tactics was great.AmIdYfReAk wrote:i have to agree,Dr_Watson wrote:the fact that they made the elder scrolls games is the main reason i'm deathly afraid that fallout 3 will suck.

i've never had anyone explain to me why that game gets bashed on.
it was a good tactical combat game... and it never said it was an rpg. were you just expecting tactics to be fallout 3?

I enjoyed tactics too, for what it was, but the community didn't like the changes to the Fallout universe, such as an expansionist Brotherhood of Steel compared to the isolationist one from the previous games, and (I shit you not) "Hairy" Deathclaws.Dr_Watson wrote:I thought tactics was great.

Yes, some people dismiss Tactics purely because they gave the Deathclaw a coat of fur.
Sure, it's not in keeping with the creature's reptilian heritage, but to dismiss the whole game on a bad artistic decision?
Batshit insane.
Oh, and in reply to your query about Hammer & Sickle Doc, it was released but universally panned. They didn't even bother developing any new art assets for the game, just recycled the old Silent Storm stuff.
Shame really, because the core gameplay of Silent Storm games is solid gold.
