RAM Question

Post by Kills On Site »

While looking for some fast DDR2 800 memory on newegg I noticed in some reviews for various brands that some people reported it not runnning at CAS 4 when it said it was and some reported needing to change the voltage. Why is this so, it seems strange to me and I would hate to buy RAM that would'nt do as advertised.

Also, if you were to purchase RAM, would you got for Kingston HyperX, Crucial Ballistix, Corsair XMS2, OCZ or Patriot?

All of them except Patriot sound pretty good. As for the voltage that isn't uncommon with performance RAM. If you need to bump the voltage a touch to run at faster timings it shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you read up on it first.

Well the Crucial Ballistix has a $45 mail in rebate that would drop the 2GB kit down to $70. Almost makes it too tempting to get 4GB, otherwise I was thinking Kingston HyperX.

Get Crutial...

i would take any Brand from that list other then Kingston... seriously..

Again, persional pref.. but i have allways found there ram to be slower then the Micron counter-parts ( Crutial, OCZ.. etc )

And p.s. Get 4 gigs, dont wuss out :)

Can XP Pro 32-bit even access 4GB without issue?

I've always had good luck with Kingston, but I've never used their performance memory. The Crucial Ballistix looks good.

i think what tor is trying to say is it can only allocate the usage of 3GB's of Ram, wile it can see the 4th Gig..

a few computers i built now have 4 gig's of ram on XP.

What's the point of 4GB of ram on a 32-bit OS (I assume you are using XP 32)? Even if the OS can see it, it can't allocate enough memory addresses to make use of it.

for me there are two points:
One:
Still running Dual channel, Even though its 3 gig's...

Two:
Waiting for prices to drop and getting a 64-bit Vista..
