I was two hours late for work three times this week and an hour late and trashed one other day :icon4:

But my boss treats me like his daughter so I was stock :icon14:

what a cunt.

I am expected to be at work on time. I get a company car.
A brain surgeon would be a dick to rely on a bus service, but then again, a brain surgeon could afford to buy one car for every day of the week.

sometimes your superior is not worth arguing with, they are just idiots.

do as I did, kiss your supervisors ass, then wipe your sweaty balls and helmet around the rim of his coffee mug

and if it was? public transportation is still much more reliable than "yeah, i get a ride from my buddy".

there's two things you're digging into with "reliable transportation" and employers generally will use it as "are you going to be able to make it to work" - not necessarily "are you going to make it to work on time", because it's expected that you're on time.

in Feedback's case, the employer is just being an asshole. if he valued him as an employee, he wouldn't have called a meeting and could make arrangements for that half hour of coverage.

obviously you're doing the right thing by pedaling your ass to work, just to show them that something so stupid is not going to break you (not to mention the fact that you moved to fucking WA for the job).

this was the first thing that came to mind also, but i doubt that he'd cop an attitude after relocating for this position over something like this.

that sounds like the sort of insult that a 12yr old girl makes.

when I was a teenager, I cared so much about being thought of as mature - now Im in my 30s I really dont feel any need for anyone (especially someone online) to think Im a mature person.

well yea no thats not my intent to infer fb had copped an attitude.

But ya'll see how juggs suggested i infer'd that about fb?

and he re-inforces hisself by "i would doubt he would do that" .

but then hey he not shy about copping into my insight concerening assessment- after the fact.

ey no offence jugg :p

that might be the kind of stuff you can be up against in the working world.

dog eat dog - win at all costs -

in a working envoirment, it can be co-workers like that who determine ur vibe!

yea what i would belive is that, fb being like a sun, the beams commin off him hit some peeps the wrong way and they get upset!

no, you didnt upset me - it takes much more than an insult normally used by a teenage girl to annoy me.

but thanks for caring

It's a managerial mantra everywhere these days (in the U.S.): I don't want to have any idea how it gets done, I just want to know that it gets done.

Which is great in a lot of situations. But a lot of managers are obsessed with this line of thought, and take it to mean "I don't have to deal with all these people and their problems and "operational details," I've made it this far so I could command impossible or impractical things to be done and have the expectation that they will be without any questions."

Work/life separation is an important thing in the workplace; you don't want to make it seem like any part of your personal life is affecting any part of your work life, especially not preventing you from doing something that you need to do.

It sounds like your boss was coming across as a dickhead. But you do also have to look at the situation from his perspective: when he hired someone to fill the position, he didn't know he was hiring someone who would say "I'm sorry, I can't come in that early because the bus doesn't run." If you had hired someone for a position in your own company -- someone you thought showed a lot of promise -- you probably wouldn't be very happy with them if they said they couldn't do something they were asked to, and said there was nothing they could do about it because it was out of control.

No, you would much rather hear from that person, "I'll do whatever I need to do to get here early, but if I'm a couple minutes late it's because I have to ride my bike around 30 miles."

If someone told you that, you would probably cut them quite a bit of slack.

Of course, if somebody told you they were in a new town, and didn't have a car, and were riding the bus into work, you would cut them some slack anyway, unless you were a prick. And it sounds like this guy has a touch of the prickish ego. :smirk:

My previous job also gave me a company car, one morning the car wouldnt start, so I phoned my company to arrange a replacement, and to inform them I wouldnt be getting to work (zero public transport)

My boss started getting pissed and told me to do whatever it takes to get to work, but once I started mentioning getting a taxi, and charging the company for it, he shut up.

What makes you think I was 30 when I did that? This was in a job that I had in 1997/1998

And the wife related comments are not very hurtful, my wife moved out, leaving me the apartment and everything inside about 4 yrs ago, because I told her I was getting a divorce due to the fact that I had met someone younger/cuter.....if it hurt that much, I guess I wouldnt have asked her for a divorce, would I?

now I understand, my comments were not mature, I should try to follow your example on how to make mature comments in an internet forum, so that people like and respect me.
