How old is your current hardware config?

Post by tnf »

I'm going on close to 3 years now I think. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well this thing still runs things like the LoTR online game - I'm playing it on my 32" samsung with most of the details on high, AA at 2x, etc. and it runs very well.

Running an AMD 64 3500+ (2.2 ghz)
that old BFG tech Geforce 6800 GT overclocked and a measly gig of ram.
And a asus motherboard.

This is about the longest I've gone without upgrading, but there's nothing on the gaming horizon PC-only that makes me want to.

You?

Last upgrade (not counting monitors or firewire cards) was last August when I grabbed a 250GB SATA-II.

Asus P5P800 SE
Intel Pentium D 805 (running at 3.2GHz)
GeForce 6600GT overclocked
2x512 DDR RAM

This thing still runs the current games perfectly which is what it's meant for. I think my bottleneck at the moment is the low graphics memory in my 6600GT (128MB) and the RAM, but I'm planning a huge upgrade before Christmas.

I need Gears of War for PC on launch date

Laptop is a HP nc4010 so about 3 years.

Desktop is a 3200+/1Gb/6600GT so about 2 years.

They're both holding up extremely well. I don't use the desktop for much cutting edge gaming and I don't load the laptop with crapware so it all works out.

I'm actually really close to 100% happy with my PC setups at the moment.

I hate my current setup.
AMD 3200+
1 Gig of ram
Geforce 6800 128mb AGP

I want to upgrade so badly, but I dont have the funds at the moment. I hate playing games on low quality, when I know I could be getting more out of it if it was on high quality. I tried to play Supreme Commander and my ass was raped. The game doesnt even look that fantastic, but it just goes to show how slow my pc is currently.

Direct X 10 looks like shit compared to its performance decrease over DX9. For now, I'm just blaming it on the drivers and current hardware. So even if I had the money, I don't think I'd upgrade right now anyways, even though I want to.

I'm running supcom OK at medium settings on the medium map sizes?

I think everyone had problems when it comes to running the largest maps with high unit counts... The best upgrade for you would prolly be to bung another 2Gb of RAM in and the fastest 939 processor you cna find. Both cheap too.

Asus A8N-E
Athlon 3700+ (Single-Core)
ATI x800 GTO (with unlocked pipes)
2GB DDR400 (I recently found out that I'd been running it at DDR333 for months by mistake :o)

Runs most things I've thrown at it fine.

ASUS M2N4-SLi
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+
Two 7300GT (128mb) SLi
2gb DDR400

harddrive hasn't been upgraded since the computer originally ran Windows ME. 30gb pos. Next upgrade is 2 10,000 rpm 250gb sata drives for a raid 0 setup. If I get the money I'd buy two more drives for raid 1+0.

About 18 months

A64 X2 3800+ @ 2.4GHz
2GB RAM

replaced my 7800GT with a HD2900XT just a couple of weeks ago, so the rig is probably good for another year or so

.... and upgrading gets your more USB banwith?

your upgrade could be as simple as getting a PCI USB card, that way it has its own controller and take away form the PCI banwith.

last upgrade was +512 mb to 1 gb and from fx5200 to 7600 gs about 2 months ago. Before that 3 years of nothing.

amd +2200
1 gb ram
7600 gs

it runs quake wars so it will do. It's at the end of it's cycle though, after this it'll be an entirely new pc (like in a year or 2).

AMD Athlon 64+ @ 2.8 Ghz
1 gig RAM
XFX 7800 GT Stock O/C'd

I've had this setup for about a year and a half, I do feel it needs more RAM though.

i got my current setup about a year ago and havn't touched a single thing in it. i rarely play PC games anymore and instead use my computer more for multimedia things like music production. my next "upgrade" will most likely be a macbook so i can work on my projects anywhere i want. plus those LED screens are sexy :D

I remember you scrabbling around trying to get your PC to work right for ages memph. I have a mental image of this beige diseased looking thing with the side off, covered in fag ash.

athlon 2200XP 512mb some shitty video card
athlon 2000XP 1gb an equally shitty video card

various other shitty PCs kicking around the house, doing various BS.

I dont really have the time to game anymore, I will upgrade sooner or later, but whenever I do, it will be a waste of money.
